Who would have thought that the lead singer for one of Sweden’s most beloved melodic death metal bands would be hiding such a talent for classic rock? Well, Bjorn ‘Speed’ Strid, the voice behind SOILWORK, has been leading a double life for over a decade now with both his main band and THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA, formed alongside then bandmate David Andersson in 2007 and also including former members of ARCH ENEMY and KING DIAMOND. Yesterday, their fourth album came out via Nuclear Blast Records, entitled Sometimes the World Ain’t Enough and it might just be the most bonkers record you hear this year…
Great songwriting, catchy choruses, fun beats, and amazing keyboard soundscapes make Aeromantic II an album not to miss for fun retro rock nostalgia…
And now The Night Flight Orchestra are ready to take it even further with the release of their new album »Aeromantic« on 28th February 2020. This time, they’ve gone back to earth, or at least to somewhere 10,000 ft. above the earth, with an airborne soap opera about the inevitable heartbreak, the endless longing, the futile nostalgia and the occasional moments of euphoria you experience when you’re always leaving where you should have been going, traveling to where you should have been. »Aeromantic« is a decadent, melancholic but life affirming assault on all of your senses. The Night Flight Orchestra has expanded their sound, and »Aeromantic« is an album that contains all your guilty pleasures, everything from mind-melting hard rock, sultry soul grooves, new age bleakness, shameless pop songs and death-defying power ballads.
A fun-loving, melody-driven, AOR/classic rock outfit based out of Helsingborg, Sweden, the Night Flight Orchestra has ties to a wide array of established hard rock bands, including Soilwork, Arch Enemy, Darkane, and Spiritual Beggars, among others. Emerging in the late 2000s, the band earned a Swedish Grammy (Grammis) nomination in 2017 for their third album, Amber Galactic, with similar acclaim being garnered by subsequent efforts like Sometimes The World Ain't Enough (2018) and Aeromantic (2020).
The Night Flight Orchestra (Soilwork, Arch Enemy, etc.) have announced a May 19th release date through Nuclear Blast for their new album, “Amber Galactic“. Frontman Björn “Speed” Strid (also of Soilwork) commented: ‘Amber Galactic‘ was made during late nights and way too early mornings, when sometimes, in the corner of your eye, you can catch a glimpse of another dimension, where all the women are heartbroken space commanders in evening gowns, the champagne is always free and the drugs won’t hurt you. We wanted to create more than just a listening experience, instead we want it to be an alternative reality. We hope that after listening to ‘Amber Galactic‘, you’ll be wide-eyed, horny and slightly drunk.
It started out as a united vision in 2006, shared between the band’s founding members, Björn Strid (vocals) and David Andersson (guitar), somewhere on one of those endless American highways in the middle of a SOILWORK tour. The original idea was to create a soundtrack for their own journey, something that you could listen to when everyone else was sick of listening to »Detroit Rock City«, »Goodbye Girl« and »Born To Run«. With the mission identified, the guys set out to handpick the perfect musicians to share and fulfill that same vision…and it took them a few years. But eventually, they found Sharlee D’Angelo (bass, ARCH ENEMY, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS and many others), Richard Larsson (keys), Jonas Källsbäck (drums) and Sebastian Forslund (guitar, percussion). And as fate would have it, the first time they all got in a room together and started playing, the magic was instantaneous.
Recorded in 1965, this often out-of-print live set features bebop innovator and trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, his frequent 1960's sideman James Moody (one of the greatest mainstream tenor saxophonists ever), and arranger Gil Fuller successfully collaborating in a big band context. The program is standards, pop hits of the day ("Sweets For My Sweet"), bop chestnuts ("Tin Tin Deo"), and some Latin-flavored big band swing (composed by Fuller). This edition has been expanded to 20 tracks.
