“Le Bonheur de Pierre” is a touching politically incorrect comedy and triumph of happiness over human mediocrity. At 65 Pierre Martin (played by Pierre Richard) a quantum physicist inherits an inn in Canada from his aunt. He leaves Paris with his daughter Catherine (Sylvie Testud) and ends up in the dead of winter in Sainte-Simone-du-Nord, a typical tiny village in Saguenay, a remote region of Quebec. Away from Parisian life, Pierre sees an opportunity to pass on the quality he values most: happiness. But the mayor of Sainte Simone played by Remy Girard doesn’t want a second generation of “frenchies”.
Pierre Martin (Pierre Richard), physicien quantique, reçoit un coup de fil du notaire Pebray l’informant que sa fille et lui sont les derniers survivants de la famille Martin. La tante Jeanne, qu’ils n’ont pas vue depuis cinquante-six ans, est décédée au Canada. Elle leur cède tous ses biens, dont une auberge à Sainte-Simone-du-Nord, petit village situé aux confins de la forêt boréale dans une région appelée le Saguenay. Pierre voit dans cet événement l’appel du destin. À soixanteicinq ans, veuf depuis dix ans, il a envie de renaître, de vivre l’aventure, de partir pour le Canada. Mais, il a surtout envie de transmettre ses valeurs sur le bonheur à sa fille Catherine (Sylvie Testud), ambitieuse journaliste de mode à Figaro Madame et Parisienne jusqu’au bout des ongles.
