Old Boy

A 9-year-old boy in South Africa discovers one of the greatest fossil finds of all time while taking a walk: a two-million-year-old clavicle bone belonging to a prehuman boy. It’s an extraordinary find because it belongs to one of the most complete early hominid skeletons ever discovered. Paleoanthropologist Lee Berger and his team determine that it actually represents an entirely new and unidentified species: Australopithecus sediba. But while scientists agree that sediba is a new species, whether it’s our direct ancestor and a member of our family tree remains up for debate.

Scientists say the skeletons of a woman and boy could be one of the most important finds of recent times. A discovery by a 9-year-old led to finding the pair, dubbed Australopithecus sediba. The middle-aged woman and the young boy, perhaps her son or simply another member of her tribe, were out hunting on the African plains or maybe looking for water in the midst of a drought when they fell into a sinkhole, dying almost instantly. Shortly thereafter, a monsoon or a flood washed them into a deeper basin, where they were covered with mud and rapidly fossilized.

Storm Boy (Greg Rowe) spends his time wandering alone along the fierce but beautiful deserted coastline of South Australia's Coorong. He lives the life of a recluse with his father (Peter Cummins), who is known amongst the locals as `Hideaway Tom'. After a pelican mother is shot by hunters, Storm Boy rescues three chicks and cares for them; he gives them the names Mr Proud, Mr Ponder and Mr Percival. Storm boy's father forces him to release the birds, but Mr Percival returns. The story then focuses on the conflict between Storm Boy's lifestyle, his friendship with Fingerbone Bill (David Gulpilil), the state's requirement for him to attend school and of course, the fate of Mr. Percival.

An eight-year-old boy is willing to do whatever it takes to end World War II so he can bring his father home. The story reveals the indescribable love a father has for his little boy and the love a son has for his father.
