The Collaboration between Joscho Stephan (guitar) and Matthias Strucken (vibes) is influenced by the Master of „Gypsy Swing“, Django Reinhardt, and the legendary Member of the Modern Jazz Quartett, the Vibraphone Icon Milt Jackson. Is it possible to combine their styles? The answer is John Lewis Composition “Django”, a Hommage to Django by the Modern Jazz Quartet in the late 50s. “Gypsy Vibes” contains Reinhardt´s and Jackson´s favourites, but also original material by Joscho and Matthias.

On Richard’s recommendation, the versatile multi-instrumentalist Rory Hoffman joined the project, marking the birth of the “Transatlantic Guitar Trio“. Since then, the three musicians have performed on numerous stages across the USA and Europe and released their self-titled debut album in 2019.

I discovered Costel Nitescu in 2006 at a guitar festival in Patrimonio, Corsica. I’d never heard of him before, but when he took the stage with a different band after my trio’s set, I enjoyed his playing immediately. In the up-tempo numbers, he displayed stunning virtuosity and an irrepressible joy. And in slow pieces, his sensitive improvisations and great tone were equally impressive.

Forming a trio with Volker Kamp on the double bass and Sven Jungbeck on the rhythm guitar, he feels himself drawn to the musical legacy of the “Hot Club de France”, the legendary ensemble which Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli brought to life in the Thirties in Paris. 7 years have passed since the release of my “Guitar Heroes” Album (with Tommy Emmanuel, Biréli Lagrène and Stochelo Rosenberg as guests). I always wanted to bring the concept of mixing gypsy swing classics and original compositions with titles from other musical genres (pop, latin, western swing, etc.) to stage. I have managed to record 4 concerts over the past few years, of which the long-awaited LIVE CD with a selection of the different performances is finally available. In addition to my trio, Biréli Lagrène and Stochelo Rosenberg are on board again. Richard Smith and Olli Soikkeli could be won as additional guests.
