Features 24 bit digital remastering. Comes with a description. The Jazz Makers: Art Ellefson (tenor saxophone), Ronnie Ross (alto and baritone saxophones), Stan Jones (piano), Stan Wasser (bass), Allan Ganley (drums) recorded in New York, September 23, 1959. What ever happened to The Jazz Makers? In 1959, the British jazz quintet The Jazz Makers came second in the British Melody Maker journal reader’s poll small jazz combo section, beating even the Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Couriers. They first established a US presence in 1958, appearing at the Newport Jazz Festival, and subsequently touring on the same bill as Thelonious Monk, where they caught the ear of Atlantic boss Nesuhi Ertegan. He brought them into a New York studio to record this album, The Swinging Sounds of The Jazz Makers, Atlantic 1333. Ronnie Ross went on to receive a Downbeat magazine New Star award.

In the 1970s lower Manhattan's Max's Kansas City was the place to be, a perpetual meeting place for scene-makers and their satellites. In the summer of '70, The Velvet Underground was the house band, and their nightly gigs, propelled by Lou Reed's mesmerizing vocals, are the stuff of legend. Documented on a cassette player by one of the Velvet's entourage, this recording has since become the most famous "bootleg" ever, capturing one of Reed's last-some say final-performances with the band before going solo. It both immortalizes a precise moment in pop culture history, and also spotlights one of rock's most influential bands at the peak of their extraordinary powers.

Analogue Productions (Atlantic 75 Series).Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Atlantic Records!. Final Velvet Underground album featuring founding member and songwriter Lou Reed. 180-gram 45 RPM double LP
Mastered directly from the original master tape by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound. Pressed at Quality Record PressingsTip-on old style gatefold double pocket jacket by Stoughton Printing. After The Velvet Underground cut three albums for the jazz-oriented Verve label that earned them lots of notoriety but negligible sales, the group signed with industry powerhouse Atlantic Records in 1970. Label head Ahmet Ertegun supposedly asked Lou Reed to avoid sex and drugs in his songs, and instead focus on making an album "loaded with hits." Loaded was the result. It was the group's swan song, with Reed leaving the group shortly before its release. With John Cale long gone from the band, Doug Yule highly prominent (he sings lead on four of the ten tracks), and Maureen Tucker absent on maternity leave, this is hardly a purist's Velvet Underground album. Still, AllMusic gives the album 5 Stars and Pitchfork calls it a "perfect rock 'n' roll record — 40 minutes long, five songs to a side, and not a single wasted note."

Chasin' The Bird (1977). For their fourth album, Supersax continued its practice of recreating recorded Charlie Parker solos harmonized for a full saxophone section. What was different this time around was that with one exception, all of the solos were taken from concerts rather than studio dates. The result is that the ensembles sound fresher (since Bird's live improvisations are generally not that well-known) and longer. Trumpeters Blue Mitchell and Conte Candoli, trombonist Frank Rosolino and pianist Lou Levy get solo space, and highlights include "Shaw Nuff," "Drifting on a Reed," "Dizzy Atmosphere" and a six-minute rendition of "Night In Tunisia"…
