Recorded between 1963-2019, Degrees Of Freedom Found is a six CD set “Blue” Gene Tyranny hand selected from archival, live recordings, and brand new first recordings before his passing in 2020. Part new album, part retrospective, this box offers a fresh perspective on “Blue” Gene Tyranny’s musical legacy. Blue’s career defining moment, composing the music for Robert Ashley’s magnum opus, Perfect Lives, typifies the Buddha-like self-effacement of his musical life. Often lending a substantial supporting role to his friends’ more visible projects, Blue’s music under his own name blossomed in a more esoteric and highly personal manner outside of the spotlight. Across its many previously unreleased recordings, Degrees Of Freedom Found showcases a surprising, extroverted side of Blue’s music, alongside the virtuoso works of sensitive spirit for which New Music devotees have long revered him.

So far I’ve been able to go on a tour with Gungfly in Holland in January, supporting Kayak. When we got home from there I started working on what is to become the next album. We’re booked to play Night of the Prog festival in beautiful Loreley, Germany with both Big Big Train and Gungfly in July this summer. Before that we’re playing Gothenburg with Gungfly in April… to be continued!

On their fifth full-length, Watching It All Fall Apart, Fruition transform pain and heartache into something truly glorious. With their songwriting sharper and more nuanced than ever before—and their sonic palette more daringly expansive—the Portland, Oregon-based band’s full-hearted intensity ultimately gives the album a transcendent power. “The songs are mostly breakup songs,” says Asebroek. “There was love and now it’s gone—we fucked it up, or some outside circumstance brought it to an end. It’s about dealing with all that but still having hope in your heart, even if you’re feeling a little lost and jaded.”

Though the Charles Lloyd New Quartet has been together for a decade, they haven't recorded as a group since 2011's "Athens Concert", when the saxophonist was still signed to ECM. Bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Eric Harland were part of the Marvels' quintet for "I Long to See You" in 2016, and Lloyd most recently recorded with pianist Jason Moran on the duet offering "Hagar's Song" in 2013. But not recording together doesn't mean the same thing as not playing, as amply evidenced here.
