Pride of Lions, the revered melodic rock band featuring legendary songwriter and The Ides Of March member Jim Peterik together with powerhouse vocalist Toby Hitchcock, are back with their seventh studio album, “Dream Higher” on June 16, 2023. Once again, Peterik shows why he is a world class songwriter and musician on this new batch of stunning melodic rockers. And his partner in crime in Pride Of Lions, the talented Toby Hitchcock is in as fine a vocal form as he has ever been, belting out these songs with the authority and finesse that only he can.The first single from the album, 'Blind To Reason' is out today.
A few months back, in the British magazine Country Music People, someone asked why RCA now Sony did not do a complete albums set for Waylon Jennings and Charley Pride, just as has been done for Johnny Cash and John Denver. Waylon and Charley each recorded some 3 dozen original albums for RCA but whereas Waylon has had all but a half dozen or so reissued on CD, exactly the opposite is true for Charley and of the handful of albums reissued 3 were on the now defunct Koch label and are generally unavailable. This release of his first two albums from 1966 and 1967 is therefore immensely welcome. These were fantastic mid 60s period country albums, yes quite a few covers but great renditions of songs from great writers: Harlan Howard, Cindy Walker and Mel Tillis wrote the first 3 tracks. Co-producers were Chet Atkins, Bob Ferguson and Jack Clement who sadly passed away earlier this year. The latter wrote or co-wrote 7 of the songs.
The bagpipe became known worldwide during the expansion of the British Empire, due to the use of the Scottish Great Highland bagpipe by British military forces that included Highland regiments. That, coupled with the large number of pipers trained for military service in the two World Wars, led to a surge of popularity during the twentieth century. Not only are the pipes heard at formal events, ceremonies, and military observations, they are listened to for pleasure. This album features a rousing and proud collection of pipes music from Scotland and all of the UK, and from Nova Scotia in Canada. Marches, strathspey, jigs (including Galician and Asturian jigs), reels, solo pipes as well as Saor Patrol’s ‘Celtic rock’ with pipes, drums and electric guitar are all included here.
Country Music legend Charley Pride honours 5 decades of recording with a brand new greatest hits, ’50 Golden Years Of Pride’. This comprehensive 52 track double CD features 18 US country numbers ones from his RCA years, along with the finest moments from his personally owned recordings of the last 2 decades.
With Black Label Society, guitarist and one-time Ozzy sideman Zakk Wylde found a lasting home for his ferocious metal picking. Formed in the late '90s, the outfit features a rotating lineup and Wylde taking on the bulk of the instruments. At its heart a Southern metal band, BLS melds the whiskey-soaked spirit of '70s rockers like Lynyrd Skynyrd with the unleashed chaos of '80s thrashers such as Slayer…
Houston Person really sounds great in this later date for Muse Records – definitely the older lion in the title, surrounded by a younger pride of players who really make the record swing! The set's got a rock-solid rhythm section with Benny Green on piano, Christian McBride on bass, and Winard Harper on drums – that kind of in the pocket combo that was often the driving force of a Person-produced Muse Records session like this. Philip Harper's also in the frontline on trumpet, sparkling nicely next to the tenor – and the tunes have a relatively laidback feel, and a rich sound that hardly shows the date of the record at all. Titles include "Dig", "Dear Heart", "Sweet Love", "Like Someone In Love", and "Captain Hook".
