For any recording to be successful, both the soloist and orchestra must be riding the wave of Tchaikovsky's exulted imagination. This is achieved wholeheartedly in an impeccable interpretation by Julia Fischer - remarkably only 22 years old at the time - and the Russian National Orchestra. Fischer maintains the rich sonority that is so integral her playing, even under the most relentless technical pressure, whilst conductor Yakov Kreizberg leads the Russian National Orchestra masterfully in what becomes almost a race for expression between orchestra and soloist.

Recordings of such important music entities as the Vienna Philharmonic and Herbert von Karajan are always going to be of importance, and this set is no exception. It highlights a conductor in the twilight of his career with repertoire he was acutely familiar with, and had recorded many, many times. Japanese Esoteric label have produced to be the definitive issue of such recordings.

This famous 1971 recording of Beethoven's Sixth by the Wiener Philharmoniker under Karl Böhm, now considered a reference, has been called one of the best versions ever recorded and one of Böhm's greatest career performances. On this programme it is paired with Schubert's Symphony No. 5, a 1979 recording which Gramophone praised as a "superb version of this lovely symphony".

Heathen (stylised as uǝɥʇɐǝɥ) is the 22nd studio album by English musician David Bowie. It was considered a comeback for him in the US market by becoming his highest charting album since Tonight (1984). It also earned strong reviews. The BBC said the album's title track "shows that Bowie could still pen disarmingly direct, affecting pop of a very individual inclination 30-plus years after he started". Worldwide, it sold more than two million copies and experienced a four-month run on the UK charts. The album has also been released in SACD format in a limited number of copies with slightly longer versions of five of the songs.

This enduring Stan Getz recording beautifully reveals the essence of one of jazz's eternal tenor saxophone masters. His inimitable melodicism, fluid virtuosity, seemingly infinite inventiveness and heartfelt lyricism are pure genius—or, quite simply, Pure Getz. The remarkable clarity and realism of this special SACD release virtually puts the listener right in the recording studio with Getz and his quartet.

Sir Neville Marriner thins out the usual ASMF textures and leads vigorous, stately accounts of both the Water Music Suites and the Music for the Royal Fireworks. The playing is snappy, the feeling of dance-inspired animation just right. This is the ideal compilation, presenting both scores complete; and the sound is open, well balanced, and extremely well defined.

Japanese original edition. Features 2011's DSD mastering using the original analog master of Deutsche Grammophon. Recorded in 1947 (Symphony No.5 & Egmont Ouverture) & in 1952 (Grosse Fuge). This recording of 5th comes from the 2nd concert, with the same program, conducted by Furtwängler on his return to the podium of the Berlin Philharmonic after the war. The interpretation is very different from the 5th of 1943. The 1st movement is more an expression of conflict & struggle than the tragedy expressed in the wartime performance. Suitably, the last movement is a strong, heroic affirmation & triumph.

You're Under Arrest is a 1985 album recorded by Miles Davis that saw Miles mix pop tunes with political statements about racism, pollution and war. Among other tracks, the album features Davis' interpretations of two contemporary pop songs: Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" and Michael Jackson's "Human Nature".

Gratitude is a double album by Earth, Wind & Fire. It consists of mostly live concert material together with some newly recorded tracks. The album has been #1 in the charts & certified Triple Platinum in the US by the RIAA. EWF went on to win a Rock Music Award in the category of Best Soul Album for Gratitude. The album's title track was also Grammy nominated in the category of Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
