«Elle s'était levée au moment où l'ambulance Ford manoeuvrait pour se garer sur la place, le faisceau des phares balayant la façade de grès. Elle était montée sur un banc pour apercevoir le médecin et le photographe qui se dirigeaient vers l'arrière du véhicule, leurs pas imprimés dans le tapis blanc qui déjà recouvrait le gravier. Une jeune femme en était sortie la première, le visage encadré par une épaisse chevelure noire, enveloppée dans une ample cape, puis un homme vêtu d'un pardessus croisé, les traits obscurcis par l'ombre portée de son chapeau, était apparu…

Un gelido gennaio del 1936 a Parigi. Seduta a un tavolino del «Deux Magots», una donna si toglie i guanti, estrae dalla borsetta un coltello e comincia a pugnalare in gran velocità gli spazi tra le dita della mano aperta a ventaglio. A volte sbaglia il colpo e sanguina. Seduti lì accanto, Pablo Picasso e il poeta Paul Éluard osservano il gioco. Il pittore si alza, si avvicina alla donna e le chiede in dono i guanti: vuole collocarli nella vetrinetta dove conserva i ricordi più preziosi. La donna glieli concede levando su di lui due occhi dal colore indefinibile. Non si tratta di una donna qualunque. È la fotografa surrealista Dora Maar. Scocca da questo incontro uno degli amori più tormentati del Novecento.

Oscar M. Domínguez (1906-1957) was a Spanish surrealist painter.
Born in San Cristóbal de La Laguna on the island of Tenerife, Domínguez spent his youth with his grandmother in Tacoronte and devoted himself to painting at a young age after suffering a serious illness which affected his growth and caused a progressive deformation of his facial bone frame and limbs.
