Yes, it’s another ‘best of’ but this set contains 4 of Cliff’s rarer tracks “Golden” “21st Century Christmas”, a remake of “Move It”, and “Thank You For A Lifetime”. Celebrating his 56th anniversary in the music business this year, Cliff Richard is indisputably Britain’s all-time greatest hit-maker the ultimate pop star! No other UK band or solo artist is even close to equalling his 100 album releases, 123 single hits, or can claim to have occupied a place in our charts for the equivalent of over 20 years.

Have you ever wondered what the definition of underground music is? Look no further. The PLASTIC PEOPLE OF THE UNIVERSE /PPU/ were exactly that. While the western "underground" bands of the 60s and 70s might have looked a bit freaky, or were simply stoned enough to slightly shock the establishment, the PPU were jailed by the Czechoslovak communist regime solely because they dared to play their music for a bunch of long-haired fans. Nothing more, nothing less, but indirectly causing an immense political effect for the years to come. Due to all the hurdles, the PPU remained in the underground until 1988. Our collection brings together their best tracks from nearly two decades, presented in genuine fidelity underground quality.

Progeny: Highlights From Seventy Two consists of ninety minutes of live recordings exhumed from Yes' 1972 tour, some of which were released as Yessongs (Atlantic, 1973). Culled from seven previously unreleased recordings of complete concerts, and sequenced to approximate a setlist of the time, this two package comes adorned in vintage Roger Dean artwork that, vivid as it is, cannot compare to the vibrancy of the music inside.

The third album from Detroit post-punk outfit Protomartyr ups the ante considerably from the first two. Their grim but compelling songs highlight a place where violence hovers constantly at the periphery, where peace and hope gradually curdle and turn ugly, and the desperate people who once clung to them eventually fall prey to their worst impulses.

The eighth release in the Sources series is the sister label to DJ International and an equally good source of authentic House music from one of the pioneer labels, Underground Records. In fact Underground records can be credited with scoring House music’s first No.1 hit with Steve ‘Silk’ Hurleys infectious “Jack Your Body” which hit the No.1 slot in the U.K. at the beginning of 1987 and was probably responsible for spreading the growth of House music throughout Europe. Despite having scored such a huge hit with their first release, Underground stayed true to its name and released scores of incredible records which have since become very collectible and have spawned some of the biggest names in House music history - Liz Torres featuring Kenny Jammin’ Jason, MD111, Tyree, E.S.P., Fingers Inc, Fast Eddie Smith, Sterling Void, K-Alexi to name a few. Recent years have seen a boom in the amount of interest in the label and now many of the original 12” releases have leapt in value and are commanding huge prices. Records like Cool House’s “Rock This Party Right”, MD111’s “Face The Nation”, Tyree’s “Acid Over” and E.S.P.’s “It’s U” among others, continue to rocket in price. All are included in this exceptional package! As with all Sources releases, ‘Sources: The DJ International Records Anthology’ has been lovingly compiled using the best mixes as chosen by Bill Brewster and lovingly re-mastered to make these slices of 1980s dance music history sound the best they’ve ever sounded. If you’re into original authentic House Music direct from one of the richest sources, then look no further. “Sources: The Underground Records Anthology” is a must for any serious House music collection.

The Chicago Transit Authority recorded this double-barreled follow-up to their eponymously titled 1969 debut effort. The contents of Chicago II (1970) underscore the solid foundation of complex jazz changes with heavy electric rock & roll that the band so brazenly forged on the first set. The septet also continued its ability to blend the seemingly divergent musical styles into some of the best and most effective pop music of the era. One thing that had changed was the band's name, which was shortened to simply Chicago to avoid any potential litigious situations from the city of Chicago's transportation department – which claimed the name as proprietary property. Musically, James Pankow (trombone) was about to further cross-pollinate the band's sound with the multifaceted six-song "Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon." The classically inspired suite also garnered the band two of its most beloved hits – the upbeat pop opener "Make Me Smile" as well as the achingly poignant "Color My World" – both of which remained at the center of the group's live sets.

Amazon Review by AlanMusicMan
Miller's unique voice seems to me a fascinating blend of cigarette soaked rasp and good-old-boy big-voice manly.
He wrote many of these songs, some of which other people took away and made their own. But what we have here is the best of his output - including those songs that were runaway successes commercially in Europe (King of the road, Little Green Apples etc). I have bought also-ran CDs of Miller's recordings before and some turned out to be the usual pale re-takes, whilst others were collections of his lesser stuff levened with a couple of the hits. This collection is not without clunkers, but for the most part it's his prime material. My favourites? The hits of course, and Engine #9 and the "'comedy' songs such as "My Uncle Use to Love me but She Died" are worth a single listen - though would get old fast! Also, I find myself drawn to his version of Me and Bobby McGee (though Gordon Lightfoot's is always the definitive version of that song for me). If you're only ever going to buy one Roger Miller collection - this one should do you nicely!
