Perfume of Silence

Set My Heart On Fire Immediately is the fifth studio album from Perfume Genius on Matador Records. It sees artist and musician Mike Hadreas re-teaming with Grammy-nominated producer Blake Mills and features contributions from musicians Jim Keltner, Pino Palladino and Matt Chamberlin. It was recorded in Los Angeles, where Perfume Genius settled in 2017 with longtime partner and musical collaborator Alan Wyffels.

Klaus Wiese: "Ambient music is - in my view - a kind of diving into the uncharted, in terms of the time-map as well as the melodic landscapes. It is much about an expression of the in-between of certain atmospheres and of ambiguity. This album plays with common notions of obvious melodic structures on the outside, but it points at something else behind. In this context, sequence and abrupt change into the essential are as important as the dosis of the unknown. This makes it similar to a perfume-code and its calligraphy. So I chose the direct title Perfume for this album. May the listener decide about the choice of flavours."

This album was recorded in New Orleans on Feb. 1996 with some of America's top blues musicians, includinging Joe Louis Walker, Curtis Salgado, Luther Allison, and Eddie Bo. While retaining his signature sound, "Perfume & Grime" finds Otis moving forwards to create contemporary blues with the flavours and crosscurrents of World music, New Orleans Funk, and Southern Soul.
