The Orquesta Cubana de Musica Moderna acted for the first time on 12 May 1967 in the Amadeo Roldan theatre (previously Auditorium) under the direction of Armando Romeu, although the podium would later be occupied by, among others, Rafael Somavilla, Leonardo Timor, Tony Tano and Paquito D'Rivera. This Big Band consisted of star musicians of various generations who came from other groups and orchestras: The Pucho Escalante Nonet, the Orquesta de Timor, the Sinfonica Nacional and that of the Teatro Musical de La Habana, which provided, among others, Paquito D'Rivera, Chucho Valdes and Carlos Emilio Morales, future members of the group Irakere, which would be founded in 1973. This disc includes versions by the OCMM conducted by Somavilla of standards from the Cuban popular repertoire: "Son de la Loma", "Ay Mama Ines", "Guantanamera ", "La Comparsa de Lecuona" and "El Manisero", by Simons.
