'When Violent Hot Pitch Words Hurt' is Polly Paulusma's latest sister-album, the title an anagram of 'The Pivot On Which The World Turns', which was released in September via One Little Independent folk subsidiary Wild Sound. It is possibly her most vulnerable accompanying piece yet, revealing early demos, lyric changes, musical alterations, draftings, and even spoken-word origin poems that proceeded the songs.

Though she's often lumped into the freak folk category, Jessica Pratt is gauze-wrapped edges and soft curves; there is none of the angularity of, say, Karen Dalton, or the calculated quirk of Devendra Banhart. At times, she has more in common with jazz queen Blossom Dearie's light touch. For her fourth album, Pratt wanted to capture "big panoramic sounds that make you think of the ocean and California''—more specifically, the lost-innocence period post Summer of Love, when the sun and Hollywood stars burned brightly but Los Angeles was gripped by fear and loathing. Sophisticated, yet coherent, intriguing harmonic language, wrapped with wonderfully endless grooves. Based in Los Angeles, the Israeli guitar player and composer Ayal Vishnitzer has collaborated with Canadian bass player Donovan Bullen and Venezuelan drummer Daniel Prim in the creation of this album. The three have gigged together for a some time, playing the songs and shaping up the grooves. They worked to create a vibrant and energetic feeling with constantly changing dynamic around the improvisations.

What would happen if you lock up a bunch of producers and musicians from different backgrounds into a studio complex for several days and give them complete creative freedom to record whatever they like?
This is the question that music label INI Movement asked themselves. They decided to set up an experiment in their own studio complex in Haarlem. They invited a varied group of artists consisting of several members of brass band Gallowstreet, Rilan & The Bombardiers, Umoja & Pitch Controller Mitch.
