Doolittle is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Pixies. The album's offbeat and dark subject material, featuring references to surrealism, Biblical violence, torture and death, contrasts with the clean production sound achieved by the newly hired producer Gil Norton. Doolittle was the Pixies' first international release.

Bossanova is the third studio album by American rock band Pixies. The album's sound, inspired by surf rock and space rock, complements its lyrical focus on outer space, which references subjects such as aliens and unidentified flying objects. Rolling Stone gave Bossanova three out of five stars. In comparison to the previous albums, reviewer Moira McCormick described Bossanova as "more of a straight-ahead rock album—by the Pixies' standards, meaning it's still safely off the mainstream".

Trompe le Monde is the fourth studio album by the American alternative rock band Pixies. After the surf-pop of Bossanova, the band returned to the abrasive sound of the band's earlier releases. Recorded in Burbank, California, Paris and London, the album was produced by Gil Norton, and was Pixies' final studio album before their subsequent break-up two years later. Trompe le Monde is the last album to feature founding bass guitarist Kim Deal.

Surfer Rosa is the debut full-lenght studio album by the American alternative rock band Pixies, released in March 1988 on the British label 4AD. It was produced by Steve Albini. The album contains many of the elements of Pixies' earlier output, including Spanish lyrics and references to Puerto Rico. It includes references to mutilation and voyeurism alongside experimental recording techniques and a distinctive drum sound. "Surfer Rosa" is often included on critics' lists of the best rock albums.

Heathen (stylised as uǝɥʇɐǝɥ) is the 22nd studio album by English musician David Bowie. It was considered a comeback for him in the US market by becoming his highest charting album since Tonight (1984). It also earned strong reviews. The BBC said the album's title track "shows that Bowie could still pen disarmingly direct, affecting pop of a very individual inclination 30-plus years after he started". Worldwide, it sold more than two million copies and experienced a four-month run on the UK charts. The album has also been released in SACD format in a limited number of copies with slightly longer versions of five of the songs.
