Following their well-matched 2017 collaboration with Veruca Salt frontwomen Nina Gordon and Louise Post, '90s-influenced indie rock trio Skating Polly roll out their infectious fifth album, The Make It All Show. It's hard to believe that the Oklahoma City band, fronted by stepsisters Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse, is already on record number five, but Skating Polly started young – in 2009, when Kelli was nine and Peyton 14 – and hit their stride quickly, earning plenty of critical acclaim and attracting notable collaborators like punk legend Exene Cervenka (X), who returns here with a guest vocal.

Polly Adelaide Hendricks Hazelwood, known professionally as Del Wood, was an American queen of the honky-tonk piano. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee. A lifetime resident of Nashville, she was surrounded by the influences of early country music and the remaining vestiges of ragtime, particularly through the guitar pickers. She took up piano at age five, and played ragtime, gospel, and country music. Despite her parent's best efforts to encourage a direction towards classical music, the environment in Nashville, plus the early local programming on radio, convinced her that she wanted to play piano in the honky-tonk style. Her dream goal was the Grand Ole Opry, something she would realize in her early 30s.

The Trend is back in action with their new album, Wood Seats Lane. The power/pop punk band is flowing with new material. It's the finished album that should have been released in 1979. The Trend is currently an obscure Salford gem. With an international and United Kingdom fan base, the band have just released Wood Seats Lane. A story telling the history behind The Trend. There's a lot of power pop magic that you won't get in today's bands. The songs still as fresh as they would be on the brink of 1979. Everyone will remember hits like Polly and Wendy, Teenage Crush and Cool Johnny. I mean, you can currently find the album in most Manchester records stores.

Without Alexis Korner, there still might have been a British blues scene in the early 1960s, but chances are that it would have been very different from the one that spawned the Rolling Stones, nurtured the early talents of Eric Clapton, and made it possible for figures such as John Mayall to reach an audience. Born of mixed Turkish/Greek/Austrian descent, Korner spent the first decade of his life in France, Switzerland, and North Africa, and arrived in London in May of 1940, just in time for the German blitz, during which Korner discovered American blues. One of the most vivid memories of his teen years was listening to a record of bluesman Jimmy Yancey during a German air raid. "From then on," he recalled in an interview, "all I wanted to do was play the blues."
