There has always been a broad picture of the scope of music that has come out of the west end of the M4 and M5 in general, from the more fundamental areas of rock, indie, reggae, rap, R 'n B and dance music, through to the more arcane areas of post-punk, jazz, punk-funk, punk jazz, art-rock and even once in a while a moody singer-songwriter.

Pointer Sisters - Having a Party (1977) is a popular album by the Pointer Sisters, an American pop and R&B vocal group known for their versatility across various musical genres, including pop, disco, funk, soul, and R&B. Released in 1977, Having a Party is one of the Pointer Sisters' most notable albums during the mid- to late-70s, a time when they were transitioning from a jazz and pop sound into a more disco-influenced style, which would bring them major success in the years that followed.

5CD box set. Released by Wagram Music on July 9, 2015. This collection consists of 5 CDs and brings together some of the most iconic disco and funk tracks, spanning approximately 6 hours and 35 minutes. The album features songs from the classic disco and funk era of the 1970s and 1980s.

A Bob James compilation such as this was long overdue. Rhodes Scholar collects 22 tracks he recorded for CTI and Tappan Zee, ranging from One in 1974 to One on One in 1979. The music is arranged chronologically for the most part, with derivations made for musical continuity. As much as his music, however, is the manner in which this comp showcases his development of the Fender Rhodes piano's sound as jazz-funk began to emerge in the mainstream. Disc one commences with the nocturnal, break-driven groove of "Nautilus" (the sampling favorite was originally the last track on One). While that cut was expected, it is juxtaposed with the lengthy arrangement masterpiece that is "Valley of the Shadows."
