Like many of his New World Music labelmates, new age artist Llewellyn's compositions come from a deeply personal connection to music rather than formal or traditional study. Claiming a bloodline that can be traced to the last native Prince of Wales (from whom he took his name), Llewellyn maintains a connection to his Celtic heritage that informs and inspires both his spiritual and musical paths. Since childhood, composition came to him easily, and he imagined melodies far earlier than most of his peers. With a keen interest in spirituality and healing practices, Llewellyn found support and an eager audience through the New World Music record label.

In the 1970s, Californian Tom Waits combined texts describing the daily lives of low-status, desperate and wacky characters with a personal image reflecting that same lifestyle, all sung in a raspy, raspy voice. By the 1980s, his work became more and more theatrical as his forays into acting and his compositions (most of them in collaboration with his partner Kathleen Brennan) appeared in various films or plays. As the years passed, Waits reached almost mythical status with his fans as well as his peers, and received two Grammy Awards for Bone Machine (1992) and Mule Variations (1999).

Label: Brilliant Classics

With this second volume of Tosti’s songs, Brilliant Classics takes listeners just half-way through a prodigious, career-long output, in which the key-notes are unfailingly memorable melody, lively charm and a gift for story-telling that rivals the very greatest song-writers past and present, from Schubert to Dylan. Many of his songs have never been recorded, so this set makes a unique contribution to the catalogue. The booklet contains an extensive introduction to the project by Francesco Sanvitale, the scholar who devised the project and in whose memory it is being gradually realised and published after his untimely death in 2014.

New Age, Piano

Music with predominant use (or influence) of the piano, a musical instrument played by means of a keyboard. Although not portable and often expensive, the piano's versatility and ubiquity have made it one of the most familiar musical instruments. The word piano is a shortened form of the word pianoforte (Italian for soft/loud), which refers to the instrument's responsiveness to keyboard touch, allowing the pianist to produce notes at different dynamic levels by controlling the speed with which the hammers hit the strings.

It's filled with some of the most important and representative recordings made by this "virtuose" pianist. My favorite ones are the sessions with Nelson Freire. Sessions with Mischa Mayski are great also! Very recommended to everyone that appreciate calssical piano albums, performed by one of the greatest names of the last 50 years.

Steve Roach & Thupten Pema Lama - Prayers To The Protector  Music

Steve Roach & Thupten Pema Lama - Prayers To The Protector

Steve Roach & Thupten Pema Lama - Prayers To The Protector (2000)
Ambient, Chants, World | MP3 CBR 320k | 203 MB

It was inevitable that synthesist Steve Roach would apply his soundscape designs to the deep, ancient, and often harrowing chants of Tibetan Buddhist monks. He's gone into the primal core with Aboriginal sounds and cultures on albums such as Dreamtime Return, and his Magnificent Void CD stepped into the abyss. On Prayers to the Protector, he works with the chants of Thupten Pema Lama of the Dip Tse Chok Ling Monastery. In Roach's studio, Thupten Pema Lama sang these devotional prayers and entreaties unaccompanied. Then Roach slipped them into his own soundworld, surrounding the monk with evanescent waves of synthesized ambiences. Being Steve Roach, this isn't the usual pretty New Age synth-glissandos, but darkly hued textures with metallic edges. On "Djewa takgya lingchee lhunbur dje" (a prayer for the world, according to the liner notes), he evokes the metal gongs and bowls of Tibetan chants as well as a freight train putting on the brakes in space. Prayers to the Protector doesn't dress up Buddhist chants, it just sends them into deeper space.
