Bonnie “Prince” Billy stays busy - in the past five years he has released albums of previously-recorded songs by Susanna Wallumrod, Mekons, Merle Haggard; even himself, and a collaborative record with Bitchin Bajas. The only thing he hasn't done is a new album of Bonny originals - in case you weren't counting, 2011's Wolfroy Goes To Town was the last one. That's from the first half of the Obama presidency!

This whopping 30-CD box set gathers together the best of Trojan's three-disc box set series. Included are the Ska, DJ, Dub, Instrumentals, Jamaican Superstars, Lovers, Producer Series, Rocksteady, Roots, and Tribute to Bob Marley volumes, each of which can be found under Trojan Box Set for their individual reviews. What's lacking here is a booklet with additional notes and information; the bulk seems to demand some extra coverage and care, yet all that's here are the original notes of each volume – only as much text as can fit on the back of the CD sleeves. From a music standpoint, however, this box is excellent; a truly diverse and comprehensive collection. Of the 500 songs, less than ten reappear on another volume, so you get a more-than-satisfying amount of music spanning the history of the Trojan label.

This collection highlights the very best extended mixes released by Virgin Records on the company’s famed Front Line label, from 1976 to 1981. The 2CD set brings together the most sought-after reggae discomixes of the late 70s and early 80s and includes numerous recordings new to CD. Despite the fact that front line have already produced compilations recently that feature a fair number of discomixes ('presents roots' and 'sounds of reality'), they have still been able to squeeze out a mighty fine collection of such, as a stand alone set. Despite the brevity of the label's existence, the quality of material produced is nothing short of phenomenal, but i imagine that this will be the last in the series, as front line's timespan precludes both rocksteady and dancehall. The only real possibility for a further volume would be a 'deejay' set' although, again, a fair number of these were included in the 'roots' album (and here!).

Where once was Superwolf, now roam Superwolves, the new album and demon spawn of Matt Sweeney and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy.

This is by far one of the best Prince compilations out there. It has unreleased songs, extended and different versions of released songs, and both funk and slow songs…

Left to his own devices, Prince will indulge in his peculiar vice of releasing triple-albums. He celebrated his freedom from Warner with Emancipation, following that with another triple-disc in Crystal Ball, which just happened to be the provisional title of the scrapped three-LP iteration of 1987's Sign o' the Times, he had a triple-live set in 2002, and now he's navigating the rough waters of online distribution and exclusive contracts with big box retailers in 2009 with another triple-disc set called LotusFlow3r…
