Ars Nova is back with a new cd which is different than their previous records. This new cd actually has a singer which plays one of the main roles along with the keyboards department. Ars Nova is still splendidly symphonic, however, this time things are a little different since there are vocals, violins and so on…

Excellent progressive rock from excellent japanese women!

Ars Nova: This female keyboard trio started in the next line-up: Keiko Kumagai (keyboards), Kyoko Kanazawa (bass) and Akiko Takahashi (drums). In '92 ARS NOVA released their promising debut-album "Fear & Anxiety", a tribute to ELP with floods of powerful Hammond organ and flashing synthesizer solos, supported by a strong and adventurous rhythm-section. After several album and changes in the line-up, ARS NOVA is still going strong and end 2003 the trio released their new CD entitled "Biogenesis Project": it's loaded with spectacular instrumental prog rock in the vein of ELP, UK and TRACE. The current ARS NOVA includes Keiko Kumagai (keyboards), Akiko Takahashi (drums, voice) and Mika (vocal and chorus)…

Conducted by Paul Hillier since 2003, Denamarks Ars Nova Copenhagen has built an immovable reputation as one of the worlds most versatile and inventive vocal ensembles. First Drop is testament to that spirit; its a wide-ranging and ambitious project that interprets the choral work of some of the giants of contemporary classical music, including Steve Reich, Terry Riley, Louis Andriessen, Michael Gordon, David Lang and more. Almost all the works on this [release] are first recordings, Hilliar explains, referring to one source of inspiration behind the title.

Presented in a stylish 4-CD box set, here is a comprehensive recording of one of the most enigmatic manuscripts in the history of European music, preserved in the museum at the Château de Chantilly, France. ‘Anything that can be sung, can be written in music notation,’ claimed an anonymous treatise on notation in the late fourteenth century. The harmonies thus ‘captured’ on parchment represent an apex in Western music, associated with the wealthiest courts in Christendom, called ‘decadent’ by some.

The Musea label and the Finnish magazine Colossus endlessly continue their quest for the greatest universal themes, in order to complete their collection of concept-albums dedicated to Progressive rock. The hero of the day is Dante Alighieri, the famous medieval author from Firenze who wrote "The Divine Comedy". That's precisely this epic piece of work, without a doubt one of the greatest books of all times, that serves as the basis for this project. And of course, it has been divided in three parts: Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso. The first volume is made of thirty-four "cantos" dispatched on four discs, each one showing the personal interpretation of an international band, according to the rules of the genre: no drumboxes, the only instruments allowed are those of the mighty Seventies, the same as for the musical inspiration. Nuova Era, Nemo, Nexus, Willowglass, Ars Nova, Sinkadus, Simon Says and many more.

Subtitled A TRIBUTE TO ITALIAN PROGRESSIVE ROCK OF THE SEVENTIES, this release employs numerous prog artists who were current in 1997 (many of them Italian) to interpret 49 tracks from the classic Italian progressive bands of the 1970's. This release is similar to Musea Records' joint projects with the magazine Collosus, but instead of focusing on epic myths and folk tales, the reference to Zarathustra in this boxed set's title is intended to invoke the name of Museo Rosenbach's groundbreaking release of the same name. Packaged in a large, hardback book-style case, with the first two discs mounted in digi-trays on the left side, and discs 3 and 4 mounted on the right side, there is a colorful, 40 page insert mounted in the middle, which provides discographic information about each of the performing artists, as well as the origins of each track. This project was incredibly well done. With several pages of essays, mostly in Italian (except for a short note in English by Scott McGill of Finneus Gauge), the track listings, and other information is in English. The thick, mounted insert is also well illustrated. Among the artists covered in this collection are Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM), Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, Pierrot Lunaire, Quella Vecchia Locanda, Le Orme, Goblin, Osanna, and many others.

The Ensemble Codex Sanctissima was founded in November 2011 with the purpose of spreading the Medieval and Renaissance music to the most varied audiences, with repertoires primarily selected among the most venerable sources of Christian sacred music, from the liturgical traditions of pre-Gregorian chant dating back to the sixth century, through the earliest forms of polyphony recorded in manuscripts of the ninth and tenth centuries, the works of the School of Notre-Dame and its correlates, the works of the troubadours and trouvères, the periods known as Ars Antiqua and Ars Nova, until the Renaissance of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. In this project we aim to also include some Oriental music, as is the case of an Armenian prayer in this first album.
