One of the great Putumayo's monothematic albums. Known and new artists revive the classic 60's soul sound. New Orleans is the birthplace of R&B and on Rhythm & Blues Crescent City legends Snooks Eaglin, Irma Thomas and Rockie Charles join other first generation soul artists Lavelle White, The Emotions and Sam Moore (of the classic soul duo Sam & Dave). Moore unites generations in a collaboration with Keb' Mo' and Angie Stone on the Willie Dixon-penned, Howlin' Wolf classic, "Wang Dang Doodle," a track produced by American Idol's Randy Jackson. A great album for all fans of the genre, with the well known quality of Putumayo.

Early superb collection by putumayo that examines the relationship between African and Afro-Cuban music in the 1990s and features artists from both sides of the Atlantic, including some based in the USA. Combinations of 'Cubanesque' rhythms and African folk rhythms create a irresistable sound that, as the CD claims, is "Guaranteed to make you feel good". A sensual and swinging mix from Cuba, Senegal, Angola, Cape Verde, The Congo, and even Peru. Enjoy.

Putumayo's Brazilian Café is an enchanting addition to its Café series. Brazilian Café brings together a captivating selection of samba, bossa nova and jazz by Brazilian stars and up-and-coming talents. Nice collection of relaxed, sensuous sambas and bossa, often with jazzy arrangements. The mood is mellow and sweet, soft and gentle; only the final two tracks lift us out of the seats to dance. Fans of samba and bossa nova will enjoy the selections, and new listeners will find this a handy introduction to the Brazilian music renaissance. Happy listening.

Excellent album from Putumayo, that highlights cross-cultural collaborations between western artists and some of the top names in contemporary world music. Featured collaborations include Algerian Cheb Mami and Jamaica's Ziggy Marley, internationally known Jamaican artists Toots and the Maytals alongside country legend Willie Nelson, and many more. One of Putumayo's goals has been to introduce people to other cultures as a way of helping to overcome prejudice and bring people of different backgrounds together. All of these artists reach beyond their national borders for cultural expression and musical inspiration. Enjoy a real gem from Putumayo.

Wonderful afro-latin music from putumayo. The rhythms originated in West Africa, originally traveled to Cuba on the slave ships and since then the music has gone back and forth across the Atlantic countless times, changing slightly on each occasion. This well-composed compilation shows how much Africa and Cuba have in common. Enjoy.

Happy dancing latin music from putumayo. This admirable compilation concentrates on recordings from the '50s, when the toothsome melodies, infectious rhythms, and bawdy double-entendres of calypso and related West Indian styles were on the verge of becoming an international craze. Most of the material comes from the Bahamas, but there are also flying visits to Trinidad, Jamaica, and Grenada. Enjoy the happy rhythm that made Harry Belafonte a legend.

One of the most vivid dancing Putumayo albums, featuring latin-flavored tracks from around the world. The set covers a lot of ground geographically: Puerto Rican salsa, Mexican and Colombia cumbia and Cuban rumba, Africando, with its blend of West African salseros and New York-based Latin all-stars, Riccardo Lemvo’s suave rumba Congolaise and many more. Putumayo always puts out a quality product, and this album is no exception. Enjoy a great dancing experience in lossless.

Gumbo is a Louisiana's heavily seasoned stew-like dish that combines several varieties of meat or seafood with a gravy-like texture and ingredients and culinary practices of several cultures, including West African, French, Spanish, German, and Choctaw. Putumayo selected this title to showcase the amazing variety of influences that characterise the music of one of the most culturally rich and unique regions of the United States. The primary ingredient is the blues, a music form that serves as the foundation for all Louisiana musical expressions, including gospel, Dixieland, jazz, R&B, rock, funk and soul. Enjoy an outstanding world album.
