4.5 stars. This music is as lush as the New Zealand countryside where these guys are from. Two of the band members play synths, with another playing synth-guitar. Not only that, this is drenched with mellotron. By the way all four of these guys sing so we do get some layered vocals as well…
There is no country more famous for its Black Metal than Norway. Yet it's sad that so often when thinking of this legacy, people dwell on the leviathans of the genre, often overlooking the lesser known bands who are no less competent. And one such underrated band is RAGNAROK, who are back this year with their eighth full-length album “Psychopathology”, four years after its predecessor “Malediction”…
Vikings and metal tend to go together very well, and the idea of combining the two has obviously been made popular by the likes of Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth and German power metal band Rebellion, and now a new challenger has arrived to prove themselves worthy of fighting for Odin. That band is Brothers of Metal, from Sweden, and they have unleashed their debut Prophecy of Ragnarok, which is not only an incredibly addictive power metal album, with varying influences from other genres and a ton of different exciting elements, but it also happens to be perhaps the very best Viking themed metal album I’ve ever heard, as the band takes familiar ideas and mashes them together perfectly, while also managing to create their own distinct sound that really has to be heard…
This is a chronicle of music that has been acquired from Ragnarok recordings between 1974 and 1977. It includes tracks from the self-titled album "Ragnarok", "Nooks" and "Ragnarok Live" plus some new material not released on vinyl or CD. It is a musical history of Ragnarok, hence.
Ragnarok was a New Zealand prog-rock band formed in Auckland in 1974. Their music could be best described as classic mid-70's psychedelic prog rock.
On the threshold of the coming Ragnarok, Graveland comes to you armed with a new full-length album, with music that was created from the ashes of past battles. The new songs that revived like a phoenix from legends and myths and the most epic Graveland works such as "Thousand Swords" are a continuation of this style of the band. Epic Pagan Metal! Here's the music to prepare you for Ragnarok! Music from the beginning of the history of Graveland, when it was recorded in a full line-up! A sword, arrow and spear held in a strong hand, hardened in sweat, blood and battle. “Hour of Ragnarok” was forged by a three-person line-up. Three artisans of war weapons took care of it: Rob "Darken" - vocals, guitars, keyboards, Skyth - bass, Ahrin - drums. The songs for the album were created during last three years, but it was 2020 when the work gained momentum. It took a long time to compose and record the symphonic back tracks that makes up the epic background in music. This is a development of an idea that you could have already heared on the album "1050 Years of Pagan Cult". The album was recorded in the Italian studio Rocketbooster!
