Walk the Rail, formed in 2013, is an emerging prog band from Santiago, Chile, influenced by artists of the prog rock and metal (both old and contemporary) and post-rock genre. Formed in 2013, the band just released their first album, Embroidery, which delivers a wide sonic spectrum of dark atmospheres, soft melodies, heavy riffs, long-duration songs, varied emotions and the musicalization of a larger concept. Their first song, Fatum, is a sample of this, since it contemplates melodic, dark, dramatic and emotional passages, and was the one used by the band to fundraise the album release through a successful crowdfunding campaign.

Buck Clayton first came to prominence when he joined Count Basie’s orchestra in 1936 and henceforth grew in stature to become one of the pre-eminent trumpet players of his generation. How do you try to capture the music of such a large, rich area as West Africa on one disc? The answer, of course, is that you can't, although this compilation does glide over some of the high spots – but only some. So there are classic performances by Mali's Super Rail Band and Ali Farka Toure, plus Orchestra Baobob, revealing the influence Cuban music had on the nascent homegrown scenes in both Senegal and Mali.

The 1960s and 1970s across Africa were decades defined by bright optimism and clashing sensibilities. Music plunged through the heart of this dynamic time and was a powerful tool of expression. Far-out psychedelic-sounding rock mixed with a thick dollop of deep funk and soul became the sound of a generation.
