Recording Revolution

Birthday Parade is a bootleg CD by Prince & The Revolution. It consists of a soundboard recording from a show at the Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan on 7 June, 1986, done on Prince's 28th birthday. As you will hear, he was in great spirits. This CD was released sometime in the 2000's on the Stoic Blue label of Japan.

The story of the invention of the term, 'deepfunk' is probably only known among fans and practitioners of this niche-genre. In short, it all started in the 1990s when DJs like Keb Darge, Mark 'Snowboy' Cotgrove and others began spinning obscure and feral Funk 45 RPM singles from local American bands, ostensibly generating another sub-category branch off of the mighty Northern Soul tree.
