Veteran power metallers Kaledon has released their first album Legend Of The Forgotten Reign - Chapter I: The Destruction, the 1st installment of the saga started in 2002. Power Metal as its best: powerful, melodic and extremely captivating! The beautiful artwork has been made by renowned artist JP Fournier (Edguy, Avantasia, Immortal). Recommended to genre fans, as are all Kaledon albums. Nothing mind-blowing for sure, but Kaledon are good at what they do.
Bob Brookmeyer pioneered playing jazz on the valve trombone, and employed an open-ended approach that embraced both cool and chamber jazz elements. This CD combines two of his finest early period albums from 1960 and 1961, playing standards and originals alongside a stock backup piano/bass/drums trio with Jimmy Rowles, and interpreting the music of Alec Wilder in tandem with guitarist Jim Hall. For the latter date, Brookmeyer goes back and forth between trombone and piano, with drummer Mel Lewis on both sessions.
Short stints with Lee Young, the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra, and Louis Armstrong's big band preceded his move to New York in December 1944 and becoming part of Billy Eckstine's Orchestra, trading off with Gene Ammons on Eckstine's recording of Blowin' the Blues Away. Gordon recorded with Dizzy Gillespie (Blue 'N' Boogie) and as a leader for Savoy before returning to Los Angeles in the summer of 1946. He was a chief part of the Central Avenue scene, trading off with Wardell Gray and Teddy Edwards in many legendary tenor clashes. After 1952, drug struggles resulted in some jail time and periods of indolence during the '50s (although Gordon did record two albums in 1955).
Phil Thornton is now closely associated with the British New Age music movement, but he is also an accomplished guitarist and has had a long touring and recording association with Sinead O'Connor. He is a regular member of the neo-psychedelic English band Mandragon, and he has worked with Gordon Giltrap, Talking Heads, Stallion, Die Laughing, Naked Lunch, 4 B 2's, and Expandis. Thornton augments his musical talents as an accomplished studio producer..
