Fatback are very firmly in an 80s mode here — using a bit more keyboards, beats, and electro touches than before, but still staying true to their funky inspirations! The style’s somewhat more contemporarily commercial than a few of the group’s previous records — clearly trying for a hit on a few numbers — but the rhythms and production are still a lot more real than most other hitbound bands of the era, and we can more than forgive the group for the few added hooks they bring into a few of the tunes! Titles include “He’s A Freak, Undercover”, “I Found Lovin”, “Wide Glide”, and “Please Stay”.

Best known for his dynamite soprano, Najee proved his versatility with this disc by using alto and tenor, and even throwing in some tender flute work on the mellow "My Old Friend." He is a strong improvisator, but you could classify Tokyo Blue as R&B just as easily as jazz due to the funk grooves.

The dynamite soprano Najee ranks among the most popular of the post-Grover Washington, Jr. Smooth Jazz sax players. He hit on a commercially successful formula with his 1986 debut Najee's Theme and has stuck closely to it ever since. His recordings are full-scale productions, employing large casts of drum programmers, vocalists, and keyboardists to back up his vapory soprano sax and flute melodies.

Considering that "Day By Day"has been out since 1988 , it still sounds as great as music that's being released today.Strongly recommended for all smooth jazz fans.

Recorded live at Madison Square Garden, New York City - January 9, 1997. The purpose was a charity concert for celebrating David Bowie's 50th birthday. Many friends of the artist took actively part at this event, therefore it is referred to as an album of "David Bowie & Friends": Dave Grohl and his Foo Fighters, Lou Reed, Robert Smith (The Cure), Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Sonic Youth. For many years this Live album has circulated as a bootleg, now it has been officially released in April 2011.

Maurizo Pollini, the great concert pianist from Milan, is shown in fine form throughout this 13 CD box set "edition" of his previously released recordings on the Deutsche Gramophone label ( celebrating his 30th year with DG ). The performances were selected by the artist himself and so retain a merit absent in some other types of repackaging "schemes".
