John Logan leaves his parents and sweetheart in bucolic Happy Valley to make his fortune in the city. Those he left behind become miserable and beleaguered in his absence, but after several years he returns, a wealthy man. But his embittered father, not recognizing him for who he is, plans to murder the newly- arrived "stranger" for his money.

Clad only in a slip, Diane hops into a travel trailer parked outside her mother's New York apartment, which is then driven off by Dr. Larry Smith (Raymond). Larry is heading cross-country to San Francisco, as he plans to board a ship for China where he will work with a famous doctor on a cure for leukemia.

Wealthy and respected rancher Don Fernando de Vega fears for the future of his ranch after his death and sends for his grandson, Carlos Hernandez. Carlos is waylaid on his journey and seriously wounded. The famous bandit, the Cisco Kid, discovers that he is an exact double for the wounded Carlos. Cisco decides to "inherit" the ranch himself, and passes himself off as the long-awaited Carlos. But he discovers that Don Fernando's ostensibly loyal nephew Ricardo is plotting to inherit the ranch himself, and the attack on Carlos was Ricardo's first attempt to do so. Now Ricardo faces a healthy and unwounded "Carlos," and the Cisco Kid comes to respect the ailing Don Fernando so much that he considers saving the ranch not for himself but for Don Fernando's intended heir.

Elmer Doolittle,a hired hand on a farm,encounters some complications in his romancing and believes he will have to marry the farm-owner aunt of Molly, the pretty girl he loves. Further complications arise when a heavy rainstorm keeps the household up all night as the water breaks through and drenches them in their beds. Comes the day of the "shotgun" wedding and Buster is surprised and delighted when he finds the old aunt is marrying him off to her niece and not to herself.

In 1825, impoverished composer Max (Patric Knowles) enrolls at Heidelburg University. Local girl Veronika (Carol Goodner) falls in love with Max, helping him to finance his education and clear his debts. Alas, Veronika is left out in the cold when Max becomes enamored with gorgeous tourist Helene (Grete Natzler). Little does he know that Helene is the daughter of the Grand Duke (Ivan Simpson), meaning of course that their romance is doomed to disappointment. Leading lady Grete Natzler later changed her screen name to Della Lynd, and under that cognomen co-starred with Laurel and Hardy in Swiss Miss (1938).
