In the autumn of 2011, Ryuichi resurrected his piano, cello, and violin trio for a European Tour, showcasing new material as well as Ryuichi s timeless compositions accompanied by Cellist Jacques Morelenbaum, and Violinist Judy Kang. Immediately following the highly successful tour the trio entered a recording studio in Porto, Portugal to record a new album. The album, titled "THREE", includes new arrangements of Ryuichi's trio works, freshly recorded and re-imagined.

Morelenbaum² / Sakamoto is a trio formed with Japanese composer and pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto by Brazilian cellist Jaques Morelenbaum and his wife, vocalist Paula Morelenbaum. In 2002, they released a debut album Casa (meaning "house" in Portuguese). The album is a tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim with an emphasis on a lesser-known material, recorded at Jobim's home in Rio. Paula and Jaques had been touring in a band with Antonio Carlos in 1984–1994, and Sakamoto played in a bossa nova group as a teenager, returning to the genre in his mature qualification. Morelenbaum² / Sakamoto second album A Day In New York presents five more compositions of Jobim plus three extra tracks from other composers, as well as new versions of songs from Casa. Collection includes: Casa (2001); Live In Tokyo (2001) and A Day in New York (2003).

Ryuichi Sakamoto's first solo album appeared before he formed Yellow Magic Orchestra in late 1978, after the young keyboardist had earned his M.A. in music from Tokyo University. Six long instrumentals make up this CD, but apart from a taste for Asian-sounding synth lines, they hint at very little of what was to come in YMO. "Thousand Knives" is a long disco-lite jazzy workout with a very un-synthesized guitar solo by Kazumi Watanabe (who would later join YMO on tour and have his solo album produced by Sakamoto)…

Thousand Knives (also known as Thousand Knives of Ryuichi Sakamoto) is Ryuichi Sakamoto's first solo album. The album is named after Henri Michaux's description of the feel of using mescaline in Misérable Miracle. It was recorded in about 500 hours, and Sakamoto would spend whole days without sleeping working on it. The album's title track is one of Sakamoto's most famous compositions.

Chasm (stylized as CHASM) is the 15th studio album by Ryuichi Sakamoto and was released in 2004. The album is experimental, pairing Sakamoto's piano work with ambient and glitch programming. Notably, Sakamoto's former bandmates from Yellow Magic Orchestra, Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi, contribute on several songs under their own production name, Sketch Show. "coro" was featured on the soundtrack to the anime film Appleseed, while "World Citizen - i won't be disappointed/looped piano" and "only love can conquer hate" were featured in the film Babel. The original version of "Ngo", featured on the single for "Undercooled", was used in a New Balance advertisement. "Seven Samurai - ending theme" is taken from Sakamoto's score for the PlayStation 2 game Seven Samurai 20XX.
