Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov was a member of the young Russian school formed by The Mighty Handful along with Balakirev, César Cui, Modest Mussorgsky, and Alexander Borodin. Although his songs are not very frequently performed, his songs with piano accompaniment or, as the master himself termed them, the Romances, are a substantial element of his overall oeuvre. Rimsky-Korsakovs song artistry is first and foremost a musical one. In the miniaturistic formats of his romances he fundamentally endeavored to interrelate the poetic statement and vocal interpretation.

Dreamtime: Image-wise, the Cult still weren't entirely there yet, as the band photos show. Ian Astbury's bandana is more dated than anything else. But it's Billy Duffy's look – a Duran Duran/Spandau Ballet wannabe, down to the haircut and suit – which is terribly amusing in context. Musically, though, on their full-length debut, the Cult were pretty much on their way. Duffy's dramatic, spaghetti Western-tinged, dark psychedelic guitar and Astbury's passionate semi-wailing set the tone from the start and throughout, while the Jamie Stewart/Nigel Preston rhythm section keeps the tribal/goth feeling running equally high.

Folksinger Clementine (from the Netherlands) grew up as a Captain's daughter. When her father came home after his long travels, sometimes he would be away for a year, her mother's chansons were replaced for his Celtic/Irish music. Water, nature and freedom where fundamentals to her as she grew up sailing most of the time. The Irish music became her lifeline with her father being away at sea. When she sings Celtic or Irish folk music now, it feels like coming home. Nowadays she mixes the style naturally with Jazzy, Bluesy and even Chanson influences.
