Considering how Private Energy positively beamed thanks to radiant songs like "It's My Brown Skin" and "Young, Latin and Proud," the title of Helado Negro's sixth album could come as a surprise. However, on This Is How You Smile, Roberto Carlos Lange finds ways to sustain a sense of identity, family, and love when that energy runs low. For these strong yet tender songs, Lange drew inspiration from Jamaica Kincaid's short story "Girl," in which an immigrant mother gives her daughter instructions on how to survive and thrive in a world that wasn't made for her.

Rob Thomas opens up Chip Tooth Smile, his fourth solo album, by singing "I'm not afraid of getting older/I'm one less day from dying young." It's not a common sentiment for pop stars, but Rob Thomas isn't a common pop star. Despite the slick reputation he acquired with "Smooth," his blockbuster collaboration with Santana, Thomas has often been concerned with troubling concerns. His gift has been disguising these disquieting moments in a shiny package, usually produced by Matt Serletic. While Thomas continues on this path on Chip Tooth Smile, he parts ways with Serletic for the first time in his 20-year career, opting to work with Butch Walker instead. The change in collaborators does give Thomas a bit of boost, even if it doesn't quite mark a shift in direction.

In 2023, Skindred - one of the UK's most exciting live acts - celebrate their 25TH anniversary with the release of their brand new album 'Smile', their eighth long-player and their first for Earache Records. From the hard-hitting "GIMME THAT BOOM" to the pop-reggae triumph of "L.O.V.E. (Smile Please)", these two sides of the album, ranging from joy to rage and love to fury, suggest that 'Smile' is going to be hailed as the band's masterpiece; an album that brings together all facets of Skindred's music - from reggae to metal, rock to pop, dub to electro - into the most mind-expanding and potent collection of songs, designed to melt stereos around the world when it's released Summer 2023.

“Smile and the world smiles with you” sang Frank Sinatra 60 years ago. A phrase of eternal truth, which became the golden vision for a brand new Lemongrass album. The sound of “Smile” is a mesmerising, refined take on modern Lounge music, woven in rich melodic textures, acoustic instrumentation and the best of latest Electronica.

Wasting no time, Cutouts arrives in the same year as The Smile's Wall of Eyes. And as we close in on a decade without new material from Radiohead, the third record from The Smile —Radiohead's Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, along with drummer Tom Skinner, otherwise known for his jazz work—is a strong fill-in. There's a familiarity here, and not just because some of the songs have already been performed on the road. But The Smile is clearly its own thing as well. Greenwood is flying wild, especially on songs like "Eyes & Mouth"—guitar getting into virtuosic territory against Skinner's racehorse jazz drums and somber piano—and "Zero Sum." The latter also features traffic-jam blares and Yorke posturing with punk meets funk swagger as he, familiarly, warns about some kind of charlatans: "They're so overconfident, confident, confident/ That's another red flag, red flag." Indeed, Yorke comes on like a strong societal critic, shaking his head over fakes and hucksters—and it could be about disinformation, or politics, or AI, or any other number of things.

The Smile announce the details of a new album titled Cutouts, set for release on October 4th via XL Recordings. The trio - Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner - debuted several songs from Cutouts during The Smile’s UK tour in March.
