Dedicated is a 1994 compilation CD that is a sampler for the Dedicated record label. The most popular group on this disc is Spiritualized but this also features music by Global Communication, Cranes, Butterfly Child, This Picture, and The Family Cat.

As the Louisville, Kentucky noise rock trio Young Widows scaled back their activity, guitarist/vocalist Evan Patterson created an ever-evolving solo project under the moniker of Jaye Jayle that explored the more abstract realms of the American singer-songwriter process. The name had two meanings. First and foremost, it conjured the image of a bluebird locked in a cage. For Patterson, that image translated into being trapped with the blues and mired in depression.

Spacemen 3’s 1987 album The Perfect Prescription is considered the band’s transition point from psychedelic re-creationists to an original act. But it’s also seen as the moment when founding members Pete Kember and Jason Pierce began to branch off in their own directions—the beginnings of Pierce’s band Spiritualized can be heard in “Walking with Jesus.” Released 16 years later, Forged Prescriptions gathers outtakes, alternative mixes, demos, and rarities from the 1987 recording sessions. “Things Will Never Be the Same” opens with Kember’s vocals sounding more angsty and prominent in the mix. Fans of The Brian Jonestown Massacre can identify the seeds of Anton Newcomb’s inspiration in this song.

During the latter half of the 1980s, a wave of alternative artists began to explore a gentler, more ethereal sound, bringing a dream-like aesthetic to the rock and pop idiom. Taking its lead from the UK (and the 4AD label in particular), this refined approach soon spread, particularly to the United States, slowly picking up the moniker “dream pop” – a catch-all term rather than a genre within itself.
Curated by the same team as our successful ‘Still In A Dream’ 2016 shoegaze set, ‘Cherry Stars Collide’ explores that sound as it emerged in the mid-80s and proceeded to define a less grounded, more thoughtful approach to musical expression than was offered elsewhere. Fusing and blending with other genres along the way. – from the guitar driven shoegaze movement and proto-Britpop to the post ‘C-86’ generation and the nascent leftfield clubbing scene – that sound both drew in artists already operating elsewhere and inspired new artists to embark their own journey.

This is issue #2 of D-ROM, a CD-ROM publication that came with issues of DJ Magazine. It is enhanced with programs and featured a demonstration video witjh Tony Vegas but it was also an audio CD, the highlight being a 25 minute mix featuring DJ Vadim and DJ Primecuts. The rest of the tracks are excerpts. Only the lossless version features the enhanced portion of the disc.

Dark Spring is an opera about four young people under extreme pressure: the pressure to overachieve academically, to score high in the popularity contests at school or at college, and to perform romantically or sexually. The pressure has become entirely internalized as parents or teachers are absent and the protagonists are left alone with late capitalism’s demands of permanent self-optimization. The conflict between the expectation to succeed on the one hand and the sense of powerlessness and unattainable self-determination in an era of constant stagnation on the other hand grows increasingly acute until it eventually flips into violence: into Melchior’s sexual aggression and Moritz suicide.

Digitally remastered two CD set containing a pair of albums from iconic New Orleans singer/songwriter Mac Rebennack AKA Dr. John. By the end of the '90s, Dr John was again embracing the mysterious bubbling gumbo of his Gris-Gris era, which was music to the ears of a generation of younger British musicians such as Paul Weller, Gaz Coombes of Supergrass and Jason Pierce of Spiritualized. While Pierce is credited with producing two tracks here, the lion's share of ANUTHA ZONE was helmed by UK producer legend John Leckie. Although much of the album was recorded in New York in 1998, six tracks were recorded at Abbey Road, with guest appearances from the UK stars above. The following year saw Dr John pay his respects to the music of Duke Ellington - like he says: 'Doesn't sound like these tunes were written by a hundred year-old cat, but they were. You want to know the ticket to immortality, write a bunch of tunes that people keep on singin' and playin'. The package includes 24 page booklet is fully annotated by Paul Myers.
