The music was superb, and Gunther Pauler has definitely gotten a good handle on the whole multichannel aspect of recording. I wasn’t incredibly impressed with his first venture into surround sound – it just seemed that too much was going on in the surround channels, but both of these hi-res discs provide a convincing degree of realism, very much on par with the excellent stereo-only SACDs that Stockfisch initially released. (…) Regardless of whether you choose the SACD or Blu-ray option, trust me, you won’t be disappointed. I was both thrilled and surprised by how good the music sounded via my Blu-ray player, and it gives me great hope that some form of mainstream hi-res music will continue into the future. Very highly recommended!

Belonging to these forecasts you can hear two tracks from the upcoming Paul Stephenson album, who already had recorded two CDs for Stockfisch. Furthermore one song by Zebra Sommerwind, the trio around Fiedelmichel-doyen Thomas Kagermann, featuring German (folk-)songs in contemporary arrangements. Also Stockfisch is pleased to present the German singer Katja Werker with her version of the "Karat" classic "Über sieben Brücken musst du gehen", one of twelve songs she recorded for her upcoming CD. A Stockfisch fellow guitarist from the early years flew over from the US to visit Northeim, Ralf Illenberger (formerly playing with Martin Kolbe). He recorded his solo guitar album with Günter Pauler to be released in 2011. "Closer to the Music Volume 4" offers more than 73 minutes of musical highlights to get in first touch with Stockfisch artists as well as sound and/or just for enjoyable listening.

More and more music lovers are discovering the unique sound of a vinyl record. Stockfisch thought about whether it is possible just to make the sound creation factors of a vinyl record audible. A pressed record however, has many artifacts arising from the vinyl pressing i.e. distortion, rumble, groove noise, vertical and lateral aberrations, clicks, etc. and other artifacts that are detrimental to a good sound. Stockfisch calls their new production method 'DMM-CD'.

The AYA (Are You Authentic?) is an association whose members are dedicated to the aim of providing an authentic musical experience in cars. “Are you Authentic“ campaigns for “real” and “natural” sound reproduction by e.g. organizing sound competitions, where the participants receive constructive criticism from an expert jury. The new “know-how” which thereby arises is shared by all without any financial considerations. In order to facilitate a reproducible test of audio systems, a detailed points system has been developed and together with Stockfisch Records and this SACD, with which the sound of hi-fi systems can be critically judged, therefore allows the most objective possible comparison of different systems. These tracks – some newly mixed, others specially recorded for this SACD – contain certain music signals which show up weaknesses in the sound reproduction chain. These tracks were selected to optimize sound systems if necessary. The tracks sound really good only when there are no mistakes in the system.
