Sparky Greene, Louis Pieper and Ben Templesmith collaborate on a graphic novel which depicts the struggle between one of earth s oldest life forms and one of its newest. Mankind has bred and discarded a new weapon, a hybridized creature, part human, part insect with no thought for the consequences. When the experiment is abandoned the hybrids are exterminated. Any survivors of the firestorm that destroys their island are hunted down by death squads. The war between Homo sapiens and his newest creation heats up when the embattled and persecuted hybrids fight back with a new ally the entire insect kingdom. Les Éternels (The Eternals) sont une ramification de l'humanité, au même titre que l'homo sapiens ou les Déviants, dans l'univers de Marvel Comics.
Comme les Déviants, ils sont le produit d'une expérience menée par les Célestes quand ces derniers vinrent sur Terre il y a 1 million d'années. Le but était de faire évoluer des humains afin qu'ils puissent manipuler l'énergie cosmique mentalement.
Une guerre civile éclata dans leur civilisation, et la faction d'Uranos s'exila dans l'espace. Elle s'établit sur Uranus mais fut détruite par les Kree. Des survivants partirent se cacher sur Titan, l'une des lunes de Saturne. Les Kree firent un prisonnier, Arlok, et ce dernier servit de schéma de base pour créer la race des Inhumains…
