Originally released in March 1996, Second Toughest In The Infants is Underworld’s masterpiece. Following 1994’s ground breaking predecessor dubnobasswithmyheadman (the record that cemented the band’s reputation as one of the UK’s most important dance acts), Second Toughest… was the point they forged out alone, in turn creating some of the most forward thinking electronic music this country has ever produced. This new release sees the album remastered for the first time and collects together rare singles, remixes and unreleased studio and live tracks.

This one-disc run through Underworld's 20-year career serves a purpose, yet newcomers should know this prime techno act already has a couple of necessary albums (Dubnobasswithmyheadman and Second Toughest in the Infants), plus there's a companion release to this set (1992-2012) that features the "real" full-length versions of most of these cuts, although you do have to shell out for a second disc. On top of this all, folks intrigued by Underworld generally fall in love with them, so this gateway drug will likely become redundant.

Underworld's unique brand of quirky electronica brought them to the fore in 1996 with their single 'Born Slippy. "NUXX" appearing in the soundtrack of Danny Boyle's Trainspotting. Their follow-up album "Beaucoup Fish" was their most highly anticipated release to date, a groove-heavy, genre-bending release that moves from techno anthems Cups and Sudder/King Of Snake to house-infused gems like Push Upstairs and Bruce Lee. The album was remastered and re-released in August 2017 with deluxe and super-deluxe expanded editions. This super deluxe edition includes a selection of rare and unreleased material from the extensive session and edits leading up to the release of the record in 1999.
