I have a lot of Hildegard in my collection this cd would have to be the most satisfying offering on the market. It combines a mixture of female and male voices and instrumentals, all executed with artistic ingenuity and subtlety. Forget Sequentia, Synfonie, Oxford Camerata….the Ensemble fur fruhe musick augsburg knows how to interpret Hildegard the best. Their earlier foray "Hildegard und Ihre Zeit" was only a taste of what was to come. You can't go wrong in buying this cd.' Highly recommended.

VOICE OF THE BLOOD is so named because the texts of Hildegard of Bingen's songs performed here refer often to the spilled blood of St. Ursula and her 11,000 virgins. Sequentia wonderfully presents Hildegard's monophonic "song cycle" here in the order she probably intended. … Thanks, Sequentia, for bringing this savory piece of history to life!

Der Name „Kuschel Klassik“ ist etwas irreführend, da viele der Stücke auf der Doppel-CD zu schwer klingen für romantische Momente. Dazu kommen noch Kompositionen aus der geistlichen Musik, die ebenfalls nicht zum Kuscheln einladen. „Entspannungs-Klassik“ träfe die Sache schon eher. Denn die Doppel-CD ist eine Einladung zu einem akustischen Kurzurlaub, der den Alltagsstress mit beruhigenden Klängen vergessen macht.

This recording presents a reconstruction of the Easter Celebration at St. Mark’s, Venice, around 1600. The Proprium Mass (the part of the mass which is related to the liturgical year) is from the beautiful Gradulae Giunta (Venice, 1572), the Missa Ordinarium (the standard Mass which is always the same) is by Monteverdi, from his Selva Morale e Spirituale.
