There have been many compilations based on tracks sampled by hip-hop producers – such as BGP's Super Breaks series and Virgin's Sampled series – and this one, released through Harmless' Backbeats division, is one of the cheaper and more enjoyable sets. It features not just tracks that have been sampled, but also tracks that remain ripe for use. The selections span the entirety of the '70s, from Parliament's "Come in Out of the Rain" to Vaughn Mason & Crew's "Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll," and they roam freely from style to style, from smooth soul to funk. One doesn't have to be remotely interested in hip-hop history to find great value here. The relatively obscure material, like Syl Johnson's "Different Strokes," is just as powerful as the hits.

Kaiser Quartett is a contemporary string quartet based in Hamburg / Germany. In 2011, the collaboration between the four musicians and Canadian Grammy Award winner Chilly Gonzales began. In 2015, their album "Chambers" was released and the subsequent tour led through the largest concert halls in Europe and Canada. Fourteen year old Tommy Schooner comes from a family whose lives revolve around skateboarding. His mom and dad own a rapidly growing skateboard company called Modern Skate that is preparing for a meeting with a large investment firm, headed by Mr. Hoffman. Also Tommy's sister is a professional skater and the public face of the company. Even his dog Buddy can shred with the best of them. While practicing skating with Buddy, Tommy accidentally runs into Frankie, a 17 year old local skater and town bully. After an argument, Tommy challenges Frankie to a skate competition. Unfortunately, Tommy didn't inherit his father's passion nor his sister's abilities, and the skate competition is in 5 days. With a lot of practice and a little help from his best friend Alice and his trusty dog Buddy, he just might be ready in time for the competition - and he might learn something about integrity along the way.

The second McGuinn, Clark & Hillman album turned into a McGuinn-Hillman album "featuring Gene Clark" when the latter dropped out of the tour ahead of it and then only contributed to two songs on this record, one of which was ironically called "Won't Let You Down." Apart from Clark's two songs, none of this really sounds much like the Byrds, although the stuff is pleasant late-'70s Byrds-influenced rock, sort of folky at its best moment and driven by McGuinn's mournful lead vocals and the soaring harmonies. "One More Chance" was the most Byrds-like of the non-Gene Clark numbers, and "City" was a good song, but, ironically, the two Gene Clark numbers were the best on the record, as good as anything he ever wrote after leaving the Byrds – and this CD is the only way to get them (they didn't make it onto Edsel's anthology).
