The two classic albums reissued on this CD are from 1975 and 1976. While they didn't exactly set the world on fire, they DID leave the listener with no doubt as to just how talented the musicians that made up MFSB were and that they could tackle everything from Disco to Funk to Soul to MOR-Pop with grace, class and musical virtuosity. It's definitely great to have these classics on CDs as these albums capture the magic of the Philadelphia Soul sound at a time when it had truly reached its apex. Enjoy!

First released in October 1975, the album was a conceptual work about the concerns of the impact of pollution and environmental damage to the earth and was recorded at the Chateau d’Herouville in France and at AIR Studios in London with sessions engineered by Geoff Emerick. The album was also significant for the guest appearance of synthesiser player Larry Fast (of Synergy, who was later to work with Peter Gabriel). ‘Recycled’ became another hit in Germany and the USA and spawned a long US and Canadian tour. The message of the album is arguably more pertinent than it was at the time of its original release and remains one of Nektar’s most highly regarded works. This new 5CD edition features a newly remastered version of the album along with two rare single edits, a discarded early mix of the album by Geoff Emerick and an additional three CDs of live recordings from concerts at Massey Hall, Toronto and Calderone Concert Hall in Long Island on the band’s 1976 Recycled tour. The set also features an illustrated book and is a fine celebration of a progressive rock classic.

Cut from the same cloth as the band's 1973 Deliver the Word LP, War's 1975 Why Can't We Be Friends? is a masterpiece in its scope and breadth. And, emerging as the last work the band would do for its longtime label, United Artists, it became a fitting swansong, powering up the charts and giving War its fourth and final number one hit…

Cockney Rebel was an English band that ran for a few years in the early 1970s. Despite the odd hit single, it disbanded (seemingly for good) in 1974. Despite this, frontman Steve Harley reformed the band with drummer Stuart Elliot and a few new musicians.
Recorded in just two months at the end of 1974, The Best Years of Our Lives marked the band’s first album under its new name Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. It was another co-production between Harley and Alan Parsons (Abbey Road, The Dark Side of the Moon).
It was this album and its two singles that catapulted Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel to mainstream success. They epitomised that era: glamorous, sordid yet highly interesting as some amazing music came out.

"… the SACDs definitely offer a clearer view into the music. You also get a better sense of the group harmonies, with a clearer sense of the other three members of the group’s vocal contributions … To my ears, this is the best these albums have ever sounded, so if you are an early Frampton fan, these will really make you smile.
