Sonic Highways Foo Fighters

Though not a soundtrack album by any stretch, "Sonic Highways" shares its title with the Dave Grohl-directed eight-episode HBO series described by Grohl as a love letter to the history of American music.

Recorded at its namesake the Saint Cecilia Hotel in the midst of the band's two headline sets at this year's Austin City Limits festival, Foo Fighters' five-song Saint Cecilia EP is both a scrapbook of nearly forgotten moments in the band's 20-year odyssey and a heartfelt thank you to the legions of FF faithful who have made that journey possible.

"Concrete and Gold" is the ninth studio album by American rock band Foo Fighters, described by the band as an album where "hard rock extremes and pop sensibilities collide". Upon its release, "Concrete and Gold" was received positively by music critics, who praised the album's more expansive feel, both musically and lyrically.

"This album is instantly recognizable as a Foo Fighters record," Dave Grohl said in a statement, "but there's something deeper and more musical to it. I think that these cities and these people influenced us to stretch out and explore new territory, without losing our 'sound.'" In the teaser below (which shows Grohl getting a new tattoo) you can hear the frontman again screaming, “All Rise!” But this time, he’s backed by a full band. Sonic Highways was co-produced by the band with Butch Vig (Nirvana's Nevermind).

Foo Fighters have been a reliable alt-rock institution for more than 25 years. A band with that kind of august track record could get bored or complacent with their job.
