Sound Mercury Perfect Presence

Barenboim and Boulez celebrate Liszt’s 200th birthday with gripping readings of the Concertos no. 1 in E flat major and no. 2 in A major.

This is one of the works released by the Mercury label in order to promote and encourage in the 60s that was new recording technology, who published under the title 'Galaxy' and the series 'Perfect Presence Sound' (PPS). Each sound and every instrument is alive and visible in the recording. And here is the sample with the presence of eleven big bands of the moment, interpreting melodies around frantic rhythms of mambo, foxtrot, swing, cha-cha or waltz and with luxurious percussion.

Nobody is better suited to undertake such a challenge than Valery Gergiev and his Mariinsky Orchestra. Over a period of a year all 15 Symphonies and 6 Concertos have been recorded at Salle Pleyel in Paris. What an adventure for the artists and the big production team! Never before in the history of television has something like this been undertaken including the very first "Ring" for television at Bayreuth.

The men behind the European downtempo outfit Zero 7 – producers Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker – launched their careers in the music industry as tea boys at a London recording studio. Shortly thereafter, however, both were in the thick of action, working alongside a string of well-known British musicians such as the Pet Shop Boys and Robert Plant. They spent the best part of the '90s honing their production skills behind the scenes. Then, after taking on the name of a nightclub in Honduras, the duo gradually began unleashing their own ideas onto an unsuspecting public.
