Since 2012, the Elias String Quartet has been immersed in its Beethoven Project, performing all Beethoven’s string quartets at venues throughout the UK. In this live recording, the ensemble captures both the intimacy and grandeur of the works. With an ever-expanding recording catalogue that has been met with widespread critical acclaim, the quartet is delighted to release this disc, the first volume of its complete Beethoven cycle to be recorded live at Wigmore Hall over the coming Seasons.

This is a Rock Opera in three acts and with 27 different character roles. There are themes and motifs occurring and re-occurring throughout. Melodies are revisited in different configurations and much of the texture of the record is tightly woven with the story, which you will have to dig into yourself if you want to enjoy this record.

Lisa Tuyala was born in Kongo and grew up in Germany. In her music Tuyala creates a world of sound and lyrics. She explores this notion of constant change and reminds us of Jazz greats like Abbey Lincoln, her maybe biggest influence. Tuyala’s songs stand playful and energetic.
