Spatial Environmental Science

This volume includes studies that examine the issue of spatial variability in four areas of the environmental sciences – atmospheric science, geological science, biological science, and landscape science.

This book identifies, evaluates and reports the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the physical, biological and socioeconomic environment, using the science and technology of geoinformatics. It encourages the environmental considerations in the future city and policy planning and decision-making. For example, according to the World Health Organization, 80% of people living in cities are exposed to polluted air that exceeds healthy levels. City planners have applied the developing concepts of sustainability to modern debates over how cities and regions should be reviewed, regenerated and reformed since the introduction of the concept in developmental science. During the COVID-19 pandemic, a remarkable drop in air pollution has been observed in India and other countries, which has accelerated the shift to green and sustainable development.

This book composes the proceedings of the international Conference on Geo-Spatial Technologies and Earth Resources (GTER 2022) which was co-organized by Hanoi University of Mining and Geology and the International Society for Mine Surveying (ISM) held at Hanoi city on October 13–14, 2022.

Introduction to Environmental Data Science focuses on data science methods in the R language applied to environmental research, with sections on exploratory data analysis in R including data abstraction, transformation, and visualization; spatial data analysis in vector and raster models; statistics and modelling ranging from exploratory to modelling, considering confirmatory statistics and extending to machine learning models; time series analysis, focusing especially on carbon and micrometeorological flux; and communication.
