Speed Racer

The story begins with Speed Racer who is a young man with natural racing instincts whose goal is to win The Crucible, a cross-country car racing rally that took the life of his older brother, Rex Racer. Speed is loyal to the family business, run by his parents Pops and Mom. Pops designed Speed’s car, the Mach 5. The owner of Royalton Industries makes Speed a lucrative offer, Speed rejects the offer, angering the owner. Speed also uncovers a secret that top corporate interests, including Royalton, are fixing races and cheating to gain profit. With the offer to Speed denied, Royalton wants to ensure that Speed will not win races. Speed finds support from his parents and his girlfriend Trixie and enters The Crucible in a partnership with his one-time rival, Racer X, seeking to rescue his family’s business and the racing sport itself.

The Mach 5 is back and better than ever! However, this time Speed Racer faces the most dangerous race of his career and it will take the whole family to help him win. This first issue kicks off a new story that reveals the source of the Racer family's long-running rivalry with the evil Car Acrobatic Racing Team. Young Speed must wrestle with his ambition and weigh the cost of the race to his family and himself. The mysterious Racer X returns as a wild card and raises the question, who is the best racer?

Pops Racer recovers from his hospitalization to recall secrets that date back to his famous family's racing team. Meanwhile, Speed Racer struggles to survive against the evil Car Acrobatic Team on the treacherous roads of the Swiss Alps. Will the upgraded functions of newly retrofitted Mach 5 be enough against the hi-tech resources of Captain Terror? Can Racer X continue to protect Speed without blowing his cover?

When Pops puts a time machine into the Mach 5, it gets struck by lightning and sends Speed 50 years into the future where robots rule and humans are forbidden from driving.
