The Spider: Judgment Knight #2
Eng | RS & Hotfile | CBR | Moonstone Entertainment | Sep 23 2009 | 16 (Double) Pages | 12.2 MB

is a gorgeously done graphic novel from Moonstone, and now it's going to be a series. It is based on from The Spider Magazine, May, 1941 with distinctive noirish black-and-white artwork. A mix of hardboiled prose and art, each page has three sections, prose top and bottom, about half the page, and an art panel in the middle, half the page. As you look at two facing pages, the art is one continuous panel stretching across both. They call it wide-vision, and it makes for a unique perspective onto a true pulp fiction character. "Judgment Knight" is the series tag, with each issue apparently titled. Issue #2 is titled, "Tomahawks From Hell". I'm still looking for Issue #1, though.

Spider-Man, also known as Spider-Man: The Animated Series, is an award-winning American animated series starring the Marvel Comics superhero, Spider-Man. The show ran on Fox Kids from November 19, 1994, to January 31, 1998. The producer/story editor was John Semper, Jr. and production company was Marvel Productions.
The series tells the story of a 19-year-old Peter Parker in his first year at Empire State University, and his alter-ego Spider-Man. The show features most of Spider-Man's classic villains, including the Kingpin, the Green Goblin, the Lizard, the Scorpion, Doctor Octopus, Mysterio, the Rhino, the Shocker, The Vulture, and the Chameleon, as well as more recent villains such as Venom, Carnage, and the Hobgoblin. Over the course of the series the single Peter Parker contends with the romantic interests of Mary Jane Watson, Black Cat and her alter ego, Felicia Hardy.

The issue solicitation promises a revamp of many of ol' webhead's classic foes and starting with Electro, it does exactly that. Writer Mark Waid not only manages to craft a strong detailed tale of how Max Dilon became Electro but convincingly portrays Peter Parker's persona and all his baggage and angst as well. One other great thing going is the artwork of Paul Azaceta, which is strikingly reminiscent of vintage Jack Kirby with a dash of Steve Ditko going through a dark, moody phase. As all true believers know, Steve Ditko co-plotted with Stan Lee the very first issues of Spider-Man and also drew it. It's like the Amazing Spider-Man back to its roots. Three thumbs up.
