If you could have only one EWF release, this would be the best choice, and even better yet it has now been released on a quad hybrid SACD that also contains the follow-up 1976 album “Spirit”. Their powerful blend of funk and soul extends to the remainder of the album with no dull moments found within. “That's the Way of the World” can easily be considered one of the strongest albums of the '70s and has been impeccably remastered by Michael J. Dutton for the Dutton Vocallian reissue label.

The Spirit of 176 is a 1988 album by the jazz pianists George Shearing and Hank Jones. Allmusic's review wrote of Shearing and Jones that "Their unique matchup as a two-piano duo on this Concord release works surprisingly well for the two pianists manage to stay out of each other's way and the ensembles are not overcrowded. …the results are swinging and tasteful. This somewhat obscure Concord CD is worth investigating".

"The Family That Plays Together" was released in 1968. This was the second Spirit album and the group put all the elements together that would make them a legendary band. "The Family That Plays Together" displays the band's ability to play beyond psychedelic rock, jazz and rock & roll. The album's hit single "I Got A Line On You" blasted the album into the top 20. Returning to the music of Hildegard of Bingen, the 12th-century German abbess and mystic, Anonymous 4 explores the theme of the Pentecostal power of the "Fiery Spirit". Hildegard's intensely emotional chants and visions (including the monumental hymn O ignee spiritus and some of her finest antiphons) are presented here framed by hymns and sequences that she and her convent sisters would have heard and sung every day.
