Brazilian act BLUE MAMMOTH was formally formed in 2009. At that point long time friends Julien Quilodran (bass) and Andre Micheli (keyboards) had already been developing Blue Mammoth as a studio project, initially perhaps mostly driven by Quilodran's need and desire to be involved in a creative and fruitful musical cooperation following the demise of his former band The Octohpera in 2002, slowly developing to become a studio based creative outlet and then finally a true to life band when Thiego mayer (drums) and Andre Lupac (guitars) joined on a permanent basis.

Mazy Fly, the second full-length by the Bay Area artist SPELLLING, explores the tension between the thrill of exploring the unknown and the terror of imminent destruction. Chrystia Cabral spent the summer of 2018 in her Berkeley studio reflecting on the thresholds of human progress and longing for a new and better tomorrow. She was struck by the way the same technologies that have given humans the ability to achieve utopian dreams of discovery have also brought the world to the precipice of dystopic global devastation. Despite the darkness of this reality, Mazy Fly is defiantly optimistic. It is a celestial voyage into the unknown, piloted by Cabral.

MP3 320 kbps CBR | 65:51 min | 151 MB
Genre: Jazz | Label: Posi-Tone Records

Guitarist Ed Cherry has been playing professionally since the early '70s, as a sideman to musicians such as Tim Hardin, Jimmy McGriff, Henry Threadgill and Jimmy Smith. Most famously, he spent over fifteen years in Dizzy Gillespie's band, remaining with the group until the trumpeter's death in 1993. Perhaps because of his busy career as a sideman his discography as a leader is small, with just three albums before It's All Good, the most recent being The Spirit Speaks (Justin Time Records, 2001). Eleven years on from his previous CD, It's All Good is a very welcome reminder of his talents.

The soaring spirit of Blue Note Records – served up here with a really special twist to fit the mode of the Free Soul series! The package is overflowing with goodness – four hours' worth of listening, with a special focus on two periods of the label – that great late 60s/early 70s stretch when they were trying out so many new ideas and rhythms, including elements borrowed from soul, Latin, fusion, and Brazilian modes – and the more recent stretch that has seen Blue Note re-emerge as one of the most forward-thinking labels in jazz!
