Split Enz

1981 was a seismic year in pop music, with a huge number of new artists making unforgettable chart debuts. We have included more than 160 tracks on the CDs of the 1981 Yearbook, the 80-84 Final Chapter, and their extras so far in our appreciation of the year. Those tracks were generally the bigger hits of the year, with their chart achievement a factor in their inclusion – however – that’s not the whole singles story of the year, and our celebration of 1981 wouldn’t be complete without shining a light on some of the years’ singles that have been compiled much less frequently over the past 40 years. Welcome to THE VAULT for 1981, 4-CDs featuring 82 tracks. Some of the tracks included were Top 40 hits, some missed the chart completely. Some were representative of massive selling albums, and some were big hits in the U.S. and not in the U.K but all are part of the wonderful pop story of 1981.

Crowded House are an Australian and New Zealand rock band, formed in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, in 1985. Its founding members were Neil Finn (vocalist, guitarist, primary songwriter) and Paul Hester (drums), who were both former members of Split Enz, and Nick Seymour (bass). Later band members included Finn's brother Tim, who was in their former band Split Enz; sons Liam and Elroy; as well as Americans Mark Hart and Matt Sherrod. Neil Finn and Seymour are the sole constant members.

This limited edition 3CD highlights an additional 66 tracks from the charts of 1980, making it the perfect complement to any Yearbook, 80s pop or NOW music collection.

For over 15 years The Old Grey Whistle Test graced British television screens and would go on to become one of the most incredibly influential music programmes. From its premiere in 1971, through to its finale in 1988, the BBC show hosted countless performances from a number of seminal artists. A remarkable appearance would often help propel an artist from being a mere unknown to a household name. UMC and the BBC have teamed up and created a set of lovingly curated branded compilations which celebrate the show and all the incredible music it featured.

2017 three CD set. 12 Inch Dance: Australian 80s Pop includes 37 rare extended versions of great Australian hits of the '80s from the likes of Icehouse, Real Life, Kids In The Kitchen, Split Enz, Pseudo Echo, I'm Talking, The Dugites, Kate Ceberano, Hunters & Collectors, Eurogliders, Boom Crash Opera, Models, Flowers, Wa Wa Nee, Stephen Cummings and others. The majority of these mixes have never been reissued in any format, and have never before been digitized. The 1980s was of course the decade the 12" single came into it's own. More than just a marketing tool, it enabled fresh and expansive remixes of dance-oriented pop tracks which were perfect for club DJ's and those wanting to hit the dancefloor to their favorite radio hits. Video Killed The Radio Star is a short-format documentary series which delves into a handful of the classic 80s-era videos and the people who made them, through in-depth and anecdotal interviews with music video directors and sometimes even with appearances by the artists themselves.
