To “To my beloved ones” is the third and final album in the trilogy of recordings by “Zurich Jazz Orchestra” featuring the compositions by Steffen Schorn.

The European jazz scene boasts a number of world class professional Big Bands, all with their own rich history and tradition. The Zurich Jazz Orchestra, founded in 1995, undoubtedly belongs to this exclusive club.

June 2021 the Brazilian Hermeto Pascoal turns eighty – five years old, and even now the Fans of the "crazy Albino", as Miles Davis called him, have painted the date in their calendars red: because Hermeto has been one of the cult figures of avant-garde Jazz for many decades and despite his mature age is still as active as ever-a multifunctional Instrumentalist who knows how to use not only conventional sound devices such as flute, accordion, guitar and Keyboards, but also a teapot usable melodies elicited.

The Zurich Jazz Orchestra (ZJO) was first launched in 1995. And what began twenty-three years ago as a „rehearsal band for local composers and arrangers“ is now a top-class big band that‘s tough to beat in terms of variety and excellence.With its musical virtuosity, an innovative programme, and an extraordinary level of commitment from both its artistic director and its administrative and supporting teams, the ZJO has played its way into the top league of the European big band scene. With three albums already released (Beyond Swiss Tradition, 2005; New Plans, 2008; Songs, 2012) and celebrated by a steadily growing fan base at clubs, festivals and theatres, both at home and abroad, the ZJO has now provided its very own soundtrack to this success story.

On April 7th the Berlin-based Peruvian musicians Alejandra Cárdenas, AKA Ale Hop, and Laura Robles present their debut album together, released via Buh records. With a foundation informed by decolonialism and organology, ‘Agua Dulce’ is a radical deconstruction of traditional rhythms of the Peruvian coast, in which the cajón instrument plays a central role.

An album that invites you to a unique sound universe created only by Ruth Wilhelmine’s unmanipulated voice in real time, without loops. Ruth Wilhelmine has created an analog and acoustic voice universe with ultra-precise vocal articulations, seductive melodic lines, breath textures and acoustic structures in an intuitive flow. Einer der gefragtesten Gitarristen der Jazzszene zwischen Rhein und Ruhr ist der in Köln lebende Gitarrist Martin Schulte (*1979). Mit seinem Gitarrenspiel bewegt sich der „meisterhafte Instrumentalist“ (Westdeutsche Zeitung) virtuos in den Schnittstellen von Modern Jazz, Pop und Rock.
