Three members of that L.A. band were previously in Touch - very good, psych-prog band responsible for classic 20/20 Sound LP (from 1969). Five years later (under Stepson name] they have recorded a great, raucous and high-energy hard blues rock album which was like a cross between MC5, Bloodrock, Free, Mountain and Blue Cheer - with overdriven fuzz guitar, spontaneous and dirty vocals and pounding rhythm section to the fore. lt’s the guitar which makes that LP so special - with raw and totally explosive sound coming straight from the amplifier. Unfortunately, after being released in summer 1974, the record went completely unnoticed and as a result the band split up in early 1975. This CD has been carefully remastered from the original, analogue source and sounds really great!

Modern Electric Blues, New Orleans Blues, Slide Guitar

Sonny Landreth's screaming slide guitar plows right into you and carries you along on its feral journey. This CD opens going for your guts and never quits, though at times its touch is more caressing than careening, as in "Cajun Waltz." This CD got a lot of airplay yet never got tiresome, the true test of good music. A wide variety of slide guitar styles, backed by an extremely tight rhythm section and various other New Orleans musicians adds to the pleasure of the album. This music combines the best of zydeco, New Orleans R&B, Cajun, and rock & roll into one mood-elevating experience. Listen to "Mojo Boogie" next to "C'est Chaud," then go on to "Shootin' for the Moon"; there is no letdown, but there is great variety. A must-buy.

Kelly Clarkson's 10th album has been a long time coming. She started working on it back in 2019, the same year her now-hit talk show debuted. By June 2020, mere months into pandemic lockdowns, Clarkson announced her divorce from her husband of seven years—the father of her two children, the son of her manager and the stepson of her mentor, country legend Reba McEntire. So, yeah, she had some stuff going on. Even though it took another three years to get that album out the door, Clarkson has managed to get the whole story on it—as well as a plethora of guest stars including Sheila E. drumming on "That’s Right." With a barely-there musical accompaniment for her trademark vocal acrobatics, "Mine" looks back with 20-20 hindsight.

Margo Guryan Died in 2021. Her Music Keeps Getting Rediscovered. “Words and Music,” a new anthology, shines light on a little-known but increasingly beloved master of pop and jazz songwriting. In the late summer of 1970, Elton John arrived at Los Angeles International Airport for his debut U.S. shows and was greeted by another wildly talented piano-playing singer-songwriter: Margo Guryan. Her husband, David Rosner, worked for the company that signed John, and together they helped him get sorted in the run-up to his legendary performances at the Troubadour, kicking off a long, spectacular career. Guryan’s career proved less of a spectacle. After modest success as a jazz-pop songwriter, she recorded one album of her own, with Rosner’s encouragement. “Take a Picture” was alive with dazzling melodies, lyrical wit, strikingly intimate vocals and marvelously florid arrangements — a small masterpiece of the microgenre known as sunshine pop. But Guryan was a reluctant performer who refused to tour, and her album, released in 1968, was a commercial flop, after her label barely promoted it. And yet, in a unique twist on a familiar story, the 11 songs of “Take a Picture” became a shared secret around the world; pirate pressings overseas earned her the sobriquet “The Soft Pop Queen of Japan.” In 2000 the LP was officially reissued, followed by others collecting her demo recordings — lean performances that could pass for 21st-century indie-pop.

We can readily imagine with what modest pride the 40-year-old Bach presented his second wife Anna Magdalena with this most delightful of all domestic scrapbooks. Bach himself started it off for her with two of the keyboard Partitas (A minor, BWV827 and E minor, BWV930) which later formed part of the collection published as the composer's Op. 1 in 1731. Thereafter it was up to Anna Magdalena herself to choose and to enter little compositions which made particular appeal. Not all the music by any means is by her husband and there are pieces for example by Couperin, Bohm, Stolzel, Hasse and her stepson Carl Philipp Emanuel as well as several by anonymous composers.

This album is an exception in Robert Lokwood Jr's , as it's the only one on which he accompanies himself, from beginning to end, on his acoustic twelve-string guitar. This is the only time he allowed himself to go back to the repertory of Rober Johnson!
