The iconic drummer, Steve Gadd releases his band's 5th project: At Blue Note Tokyo. This album follows their 2018 Grammy win of Best Contempory / Instrumental Album for the eponymous album Steve Gadd Band. At Blue Note Tokyo was recorded live at this legendary club in December of 2018. Regular band members, Walt Fowler (Flugelhorn/Trumpet), Kevin Hays (Piano/Keys) and Jimmy Johnson (Bass) are joined by an old friend and renown guitarist, David Spinozza. The album highlights live versions of tunes from previous albums. It features a couple of new tunes penned by Spinozza and two tracks with soulful vocals by Hays. At Blue Note Tokyo captures the unique appeal of this venue and reflects the special relationship Steve Gadd has had with this club over the many years.

The living legend, drummer Steve Gadd, is still very much at it. Gadd, of course, won Grammys in 2017 and 2019 with this band (or the core of it) and boasts a resume like few others. This live date, At Blue Note Tokyo, is one of his groove steady outings as he lays mostly in the pocket driving his band in a live version of the sound his band delivered on 2019’s Steve Gadd Band. He is joined by longtime Steve Gadd Band (SGB) members bassist Jimmy Johnson, trumpeter Walt Fowler, and newer member Kevin Hays on keyboards. Guitarist David Spinozza, an associate and frequent jazz-fusion sideman for many in the ‘70s, replaces guitarist Michael Landau for this date, as Landau could not make the tour.

Ai Shinohara just released August 22nd with the latest work "To The End Of This World" which co-starred with the up-and-coming creators. A dream team by her and Will Lee and Steve Gadd returned to Blue Note Tokyo after a year and three months. For Sugawara, Will and Gadd have been super heroes since she opened her eyes on jazz and fusion when she was in elementary school. I was fascinated by their performance hundreds of times with records, CDs, videos, live, etc. I dreamed that I could play with them someday. That was the first time in February 2017. This live, in addition to the numbers from the commemorative album 'Somehow, Someday, Somewhere', is a stage more than the last time from the last time to the original written down and the cover song surprisingly surprised.
