Steve was the first member of Genesis to release a solo album (Voyage of the Acolyte in 1975) before leaving the band in 1977. This new box collects his six Charisma studio albums with Please Don’t Touch and Spectral Mornings utilising the recent Steven Wilson stereo remixes (via the original multi-track tapes). The remaining albums have been newly remastered from the original master tapes.
As well as this studio work, The Charisma Years 1975-1983 contains Live at The New Theatre, Oxford 1979, a newly mixed concert recorded on the Spectral Mornings tour and Live at Reading 1981 an LP of Steve’s appearance at the Reading Festival in August, 1981. Finally, a 12-inch live EP is included called I Know What I Like. This features Steve’s band performing the Genesis’ I Know What I Like (in Your Wardrobe) recorded in 1979 at Oxford New Theatre plus several tracks recorded live at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in November 1979.

Stunning 2CD Set Featuring The Live FM Broadcast Recording From Steve Hackett s 1981 Tour Having gained prominence as the lead guitarist of Genesis between 1971 and 1977, for whom he contributed to six studio albums and three live albums, Steve Hackett left the band in October 1977 at the culmination of their Wind And Wuthering tour. Steve had made his first solo record in 1975, while still a member of the prog-rock maestros, and following his departure, produced three more albums between 1978 and 1981. For his fifth record, Cured, Hackett changed direction. It was recorded without the band with whom he had worked since 1979 (save for contributions from Nick Magnus and brother John Hackett) and features Steve handling all the lead vocals.

To his credit, Steve Hackett learned from the mistakes made on Please Don't Touch, and delivered a much-improved mix of songs and instrumentals on 1975's Spectral Mornings. With a workable backing band that includes John Shearer, Nick Magnus, and former Decameron bassist Dik Cadbury, the ex-Genesis guitarist exploits his strengths: progressive instrumentals that skip between heaven and hell, pastoral pop songs, and a healthy dose of English humor…

Steve Hackett left Genesis in June 1977 (following the tour that would be documented on Seconds Out), and started his solo career in earnest with Please Don't Touch. Unlike Voyage of the Acolyte, which was a largely instrumental concept album steeped in the progressive rock idiom, this record is primarily a collection of songs featuring guest vocalists Richie Havens, Randy Crawford, and Kansas' Steve Walsh (their Phil Ehart also chips in here on drums)…
