All revved up and red hot, The STRAY CATS are back! Brian Setzer (guitar, vocals), Lee Rocker (bass, vocals) and Slim Jim Phantom (drums, vocals) – original founding members of the iconic and acclaimed American rock and roll trio are celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2019 with a new album and tour. The multi-million selling band with such smashes as “Runaway Boys,” “Rock This Town,” “Stray Cat Strut”, and “(She’s) Sexy + 17,” have titled the album ’40’. Marking their first new album in 26 years, the dozen original songs on ’40’ were recorded in Nashville, TN.

The key group of the early-'80s rockabilly revival, the Stray Cats scored several big hits on both sides of the Atlantic thanks to a striking visual style tailor-made for the early days of MTV, as well as genuine musical chops that evoked the best players of rockabilly's original heyday. the Stray Cats were formed by guitarist/vocalist Brian Setzer in the Long Island town of Massapequa, NY, in 1979. At first, Setzer played rockabilly covers in a band called the Tom Cats with his brother, drummer Gary, and bassist Bob Beecher; however, Setzer soon abandoned that group to join up with newly rechristened school friends Lee Rocker (born Leon Drucker) and Slim Jim Phantom (born James McDonnell). However, their retro '50s look and sound didn't go over well around Long Island, and in the summer of 1980, the group headed to England, where a rockabilly revival movement was just beginning to emerge.

Without doubt the finest rockabilly band to emerge out of the early 1980s revival, New York's Stray Cats were also among the most stylish, genuine and musically adept groups to have arrived during a period best known for its synth-laden sub-disco tedium. This superb collection features three CDs, each featuring live broadcast recordings from the Cats, taken from different eras of their existence. Kicking off with a dynamic show from Massey Hall in Toronto in 1983, shortly before the group's third studio album Rant & Rave was released, this is followed on disc two by a fine collection of the guys' television appearances recorded between 1981 and 1990. The set concludes on disc three with a later period gig from 1992: the group's legendary show from Asbury Park in New Jersey.
